Seeking Solutions for 2018 Seat Tarraco's Ignition Problems and Troublesome Warning Light
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Seat Tarraco is experiencing ignition problems, random shutdowns, and a persistent warning light. The initial suspicion is a faulty water sensor, but a similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by addressing a faulty sensor cable connection. The problem might be due to inaccurate data being sent to the engine control unit, possibly from a worn-out sensor like the Throttle Position Sensor. It's advised to inform the mechanic of all symptoms and warning lights for accurate diagnosis and repair.

Appreciate your input! Typing this as I'm stranded on the road again, lucky me. Before it conks off, the engine sort of hesitates, like it's running out of fuel. And besides the warning light mentioned earlier, sometimes the "check engine" light flickers on. Might indeed be an issue with a sensor cable connection like you said. Thanks for the suggested diagnosis and the cost estimate, gives me an idea of what to expect. Oh, and with regards to the mileage, my Tarraco is sitting at approximately 69150 KM. Had its last service around 2,000 KM ago.

Bummer! Sorry to hear you're having a rough time. From your description though, it does sound like a sensor-related problem. That hesitation you're feeling could be the result of inaccurate information being fed to the engine control unit (ECU) due to a faulty sensor. The flickering 'check engine' light could be the car's computer trying to alert you about this. Considering your Tarraco's mileage and the recent service, a sensor failure is plausible, these little buggers sometimes tend to wear out. I had an issue with my Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) around these miles. Be sure to tell your mechanic about all the symptoms and lights you've mentioned here, and perhaps even print out or show him this thread if it's easier. The estimated cost could vary depending on the labour expense at the garage, and the exact sensor that’s behind all this. But at least now you've got a direction to look at. Keep us posted on your progress! Remember, we're all here to help each other out! Cheers!

Absolutely! This back and forth's been invaluable. Your insight's given me a good direction to head in and I've got more confidence about what to tell the mechanic now. With any luck, it's just a sensor acting up like you've mentioned. I'll be sure to keep this thread updated as soon as I've got some news. Really can't thank everyone enough for the support. Cheers to all, ride safe!

Hey there! I'm not a pro but I'll share what I can. I had almost identical trouble on my 2016 Seat Leon. What seemed to be the culprit was indeed a sensor, but instead of a water sensor, in my case, it was a sensor cable connection that was faulty. I got it sorted out at my local garage and cost me around 365 Euro. Take my advice with a pinch of salt because I'm not an expert, but you might want to consider checking this on your Tarraco. Also, is there anything else you can tell me about your car? Perhaps how it acts before it cuts out or any other lights you see on the dash? More info can help us get to the bottom of this. Good luck!
