Seeking Solutions for 2007 Hyundai Trajet Experiencing Black Smoke, Power Drop and Exhaust Issues

Loss of engine power

Loud hissing on acceleration

Strong exhaust smell

Check engine light on

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

DPF regeneration failure

Hey! I've been having a weird issue with my 2007 Hyundai Trajet with a Gas engine. Lately, it's been spewing black smoke on acceleration, with the check engine light constantly on. I've also noticed a significant drop in engine power, a loud hissing noise during acceleration and a pretty intense exhaust smell. Plus, DPF regeneration just doesn't seem to be working. I'm thinking the trouble could be with the exhaust gas recirculation function, but wanted to see if any of you have experienced something similar and how you got this sorted out at the workshop. Any insights or suggestions on this would be really appreciated. Cheers.

Hey there, I can't claim to be an expert, just a car owner with some experience under my belt. I've had a similar issue with my 2005 Hyundai Tucson. The problem revolved around damaged cables on the electric changeover valve. I took it to the workshop where theyaged to diagnose it correctly and got it sorted. It didn't really bust my purse either, cost me about €155.00 to get it fixed. Could you share more details about your Trajet, like the exact model, any recent service history or parts changes? That could help identify if it's the same issue as mine. Hope this helps you a bit.

Hey! I appreciate your insight. My Trajet is a 2007 GLS model, runs on Gasoline. I can't really recall any major part changes recently. It's been mostly routine maintenance, you know, oil changes, filter replacements and all that jazz. Last time I had it serviced was at the 94291 KM mark. You think it's probably worth having a professional take a look at the valve? Thanks again for your help!

Hi again! Based on what you've mentioned, it does sound quite similar to the issue I faced with my Tucson. I'd definitely suggest you have a professional run diagnostics, particularly on the electric changeover valve. They'd need to specifically look at the pressure converter of the turbocharger and see if it's functioning correctly. If needed, get those damaged cables replaced. It shouldn't be too heavy on the wallet either, probably around the same amount as what I paid. Remember, it’s always better to fix these issues early than to ignore and have them get worse over time. Safe driving!

Cheers! I'll definitely do that, thanks for directing me in the right direction. You're completely right, it's not worth taking a chance with things like this. I'll get the car to the workshop and ask them to check the valve and the turbocharger. Fingers crossed it won't cost me an arm and a leg. Greatly appreciate your help. Drive safe!
