Seeking Reliable Mechanic for 2004 Volvo V60 Issues: Check Engine Light, Power Loss, Poor Fuel Economy

Jerking on acceleration

Poor fuel economy

Loss of engine power

Weird engine noise

Check engine light on

Hey folks! I've got this 2004 Volvo V60 gas burner with nearly 80k KM on the clock that's giving me a bit of a headache. Check engine light is on, it’s got a power loss, bit of a stutter on acceleration, dreadful fuel economy and a funky engine noise. I'm thinking it's a Knock sensor saga. Last time I dealt with a mechanic, it wasn't the best experience. Anyone else had a similar issue and could recommend a reliable mechanic? Any advice or suggestions based on your experience would be golden! Thanks!

Hey, I've got a 2001 Volvo V70, and I've been in your exact shoes. Last time I ended up at the garage because of similar symptoms - poor fuel economy, rattling engine, the works. Turns out, the issue was with a defective cable/plug. It wasn't some tiny problem, it was quite a serious issue because these faulty parts could cause the engine to misfire, which might lead to other significant engine damage if left untreated for a long time. Based on my own experience, it seems like your car might be having the same issue. Although, I would suggest not to make any assumptions right now and get it checked from a reputable mechanic. Look, I know you've had a crummy experience with mechanics before, but don't let one bad apple ruin the bunch for you. I had a great experience with a garage around the corner - fantastic team focused on getting you back on the road without any fuss. But yeah, from my experience, you should definitely get this checked out by a professional soon to nip it in the bud. All the best!

Hey there, Thanks for the quick response and advice. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who's dealt with this. I'll definitely get it checked out as you suggested. It sounds like your V70's issue was pretty similar. Just out of curiosity, do you happen to remember what the damage was to your wallet when you got it fixed? And has anything else popped up since getting it sorted? Cheers!

Hey, No worries, glad I could help. Yeah, the troubles my old V70 gave me were a pain, to say the least. As for the cost, it ended up being 95€ on the dot to fix the dodgy cable/plug, which I'd say is reasonable considering it saved me from loads of potential damage down the line. Since I got that fixed, the car's been running pretty well, actually. Knock on wood, but the Knock sensor issue, along with the power loss and stutter during acceleration, haven't reared their ugly heads again. Besides that little problem, she's been as smooth as the day I got her. Sure, a few niggles here and there, but nothing a quick wrench can't sort. Anyway, make sure you get your V60 checked out pronto. These little gremlins can turn nasty if left untreated. Best of luck!

Thanks a ton for sharing your experience and info. Quite a relief to hear that your V70 is running smoothly post repair. Seems like the cost was pretty fair to nip this issue in the bud. Yeah, I've learnt my lesson and I won't be ignoring these symptoms any longer. As for the mechanic suggestion, I'll definitely give that garage a shot. Hopefully, they can sort it out without any hassle and I can be back on the road soon. Thanks again for your help! Have a good day ahead.
