Hey there! It's a right bummer hearing about your Lexus. Engine trouble is always a pain. Your symptoms sound quite a bit like what mine was doing. Based on what I've dealt with, I reckon the Valve Servomotor might be the scoundrel here too. When my mechanic took a swing at fixing it, he traced back the issue to the Valve Servomotor. Your oil being filled with metal shavings does indeed sound like wear and tear on the motor - exactly what happened with my beauty. I ended up having to replace the whole Servomotor and change the oil out. It was quite a blow but the good news is - when we did that, everything started working like a charm again and no more annoying noises. Out of curiosity, do you recall how much you got charged for the fix? And has anything else popped up since then?
Hey there! Bummer indeed. But hey, let's talk fixes, shall we? Just like you, I did have to replace the entire Valve Servomotor plus an oil change. Had to shell out quite a hefty sum - 405€ to be precise. Not a small pinch to the pocket, I might add. But hey, life's about learning from our car missteps, right? As for if anything else has thrown a spanner in the works since then - not really! In fact, my 2018 Lexus ES Hybrid has been purring quite happily since the Servomotor fix. After visiting the mechanic, the Error in the camshaft adjustment was set straight. The engine power's just like before, fuel economy's back to its former glory and those strange knocking sounds? Absolutely zilch. Hope your beauty gets back on the road soon! Hang in there.
Ahoy! Thanks for the swift reply. It's not the best news on the cost front, but honestly, at this point, I just want my RC purring like yours is post-fix. It's a relief hearing your Lexus is running smoothly since the Servomotor replacement. 405€ is a stern pinch to the wallet, but I am preparing myself for it. You're right, we learn from our auto problems. Just glad it didn't escalate to severe engine damage. Believe me; I'm all too eager to get her back on the road, free of those mysterious engine sounds and camshaft adjustment errors. And your Lexus running well after this, it gives me a bit of hope. Guess it's about time I set aside my mechanic issues and get this dealt with. Looking forward to sharing a similar success story with you soon! Cheers for all the info and support. You've been a helmsman through these rough waters. Will keep you posted on how it pans out. Stay safe out there and drive happy!
Hey! I feel you. Had some experience with my own 2018 Lexus ES Hybrid doing the exact same thing a while back. Turns out, the culprit was indeed the Valve Servomotor. That ticking or knocking sound you've mentioned, along with the noticeable drop in performance, just similar symptoms I faced. Those metal shavings in your oil, that's a sign of wear in the motor, in my case, anyway. My mechanic took a gander at it, and it was a definitive Valve Servomotor defective situation. It was messing up with the valve timing, hence the decrease in performance and the unusual engine sounds. We had to replace the servomotor and also did an oil change, that cleared the metal shavings. Just to note, it was a bit of a serious issue because unattended, it could have led to severe engine damage. But after the replacement, it was smooth sailing. Engine power came right back up, noises subsided, no knocking or ticking, and the fuel economy was back to normal. Give that a go. Hope it helps!
