Seeking Assistance for Erratic Shifts and Warning Light Issues in 2016 Kia Pro Ceed

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hey! I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my 2016 Kia Pro Ceed that's got a petrol engine and done a tidy 90,223 KM. Last time I checked with a mechanic, things didn’t turn out well but now I'm facing some annoying issues. My transmission is acting up, erratic shifts and all, and I've got this pesky warning light on the dash/speedo that just won’t leave. I'm starting to wonder if there's some problem with the parking position switch for my auto transmission. Is there anyone out there who's had a similar experience? Any decent mechanics you can recommend who knows their way around this issue? Cheers in advance!

Hey! I feel ya, was on the same boat a while back with my 2013 Kia Optima though it was knocking around a bit more on mileage. I know that not-so-fun feeling all too well, having the transmission snarl up and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Coming to the crux of it, turned out to be a Transmission Control Unit issue for me. Yeah, wasn't exactly a minor problem if you get what I'm saying. The gear shifts were erratic and the warning light wouldn't quit. It was as if the whole system was in cahoots to drive me up the wall. Got it sorted at the local garage. What needed to be done was a full-on replacement of the TCU. Seems like these things can go haywire now and then, especially when the mileage piles up. Now, it's all smooth sailing with shifts being as gentle as a kitten. Might be worth getting a similar check done on your Pro Ceed. Hope it all sorts out for you. Good luck!

Hey there, Dang, seems like I'm not the only one dealing with the temper-y transmission and the stubborn warning light! Talk about Christmas, just without the presents. Your Optima story definitely sounds familiar, makes me think I might have that Transmission Control Unit issue too. I hate it when these problems turn out to be a full blown mechanical orchestra, ya know? Great to hear your gear shifts are kitten-smooth now though, gives me some hope. So, you mentioned getting the TCU replaced, do you remember, roughly, how much that set you back? And since the fix, have any additional issues cropped up or has it been all good? Appreciate your advice and fingers crossed it all works out for me too. Cheers!

Hey again, Oh, I totally get what you mean by "mechanical orchestra,". It's definitely not the music to our ears we're hoping for, right? To answer your question, my little TCU adventure set me back a pretty penny - about 1000.00 € to be precise. It was a bit of a punch to the wallet, not gonna lie. But on the brighter side, since fixing it, my Optima has been running like a dream, no new issues whatsoever. And yeah, remember your suspicion about the parking position switch? Spot on! Had a similar problem, but ever since I took my car to the mechanic, it's been sorted out. The fix was part of that larger TCU job. So, keep your chin up! It might seem like a pain now, but once it's sorted, you'll have a smoother ride. Here's hoping your Pro Ceed gets back on track soon! Best of luck!

Hey! Really appreciate your advice and sharing your experience with the TCU blight. It's a bit of a hit - that price tag gave my heart a bit of a flutter but, hey, if it fixes the problem, then it's probably worth it. Good to hear that the parking position switch issue can be sorted along with it, two birds with one stone. I'm slightly hopeful now. Off to the garage I go, anyway, seems like going through this ordeal is a rite of passage for Kia owners, ha! Here's hoping the Pro Ceed behaves after this. Will keep you updated. Truly, your help means a lot. I've got my fingers crossed, hoping for a smoother ride soon! Cheers and take care!
