Seeking Advice: Potential Crankcase Ventilation Fault in 2018 Seat Tarraco

Hey everyone, I drive a Gas 2018 Seat Tarraco with a petrol engine and has done around 80,846 KM so far. Lately, it's been acting up - the check engine light keeps coming on, it sometimes randomly cuts out, feels like it's lost some of its usual oomph, the engine doesn't seem to be running as smooth as it used to, and it's using way more fuel than usual. It even shakes around when idling and jerks a bit when I accelerate. After my last not-so-great experience with my mechanic, I'm leaning towards thinking that these problems might be because of a crankcase ventilation fault. Anyone here had a similar issue with their cars? How did your mechanics handle it? Would appreciate to hear your experiences and advice before I head back to another mechanic. Cheers!

Hey there, I drive a 2015 Seat Ibiza, and I've experienced nearly the same symptoms as you are describing. Check engine light, lacking power, increased fuel consumption, and a rough idle were all signs. Turned out, it was the crankcase ventilation system. The mechanic explained that the crankcase ventilation system's task is to manage the pressure and remove combustion gases from the crankcase, which can cause all the symptoms when it goes haywire. In my case, they had to replace some faulty parts - breather valve and vent hoses. If they were left unattended, it could have caused damage to the engine seals and gaskets in the long run. So, yeah, it was quite a serious issue. Just bear in mind that every scenario is different and this might not necessarily be your problem. However, your symptoms indeed do align with a faulty crankcase ventilation system. I'd suggest finding a reliable mechanic who is familiar with SEAT models and can give you a thorough diagnosis. Good luck!

Hiya! Just stumbled upon this thread and couldn't help jumping in because I've had a similar issue with my 2017 Tarraco. Same story...check engine light on, less power, drinking more petrol, rough idle, the works! Turned out it was a crankcase ventilation problem just like in your case. Can't remember exactly the cost since it was a while ago, but it wasn't cheapskate, I tell you that! Do you recall how much your repair set you back? Also, did anything else pop up since you had it sorted? All the best!

Hey, Sounds like our cars have had similar music to dance to! Yep, the crankcase ventilation issue was indeed a bit pricey to get fixed. To be honest, it set me back by about 360€ for the whole works - those were for the breather valve and vent hoses replacements. After the repair, my Seat Ibiza's been behaving pretty well. Havent had any new issues rising since getting that crankcase ventilation system sorted, thankfully. Seems like everything's back to the smooth rides and the beastly power I'm used to. So, on the upside, if this is what's going on with your Tarraco, you're probably sorted for a good while once it's fixed. Just keep in mind though, what fixed my issue might not be exactly what's troubling yours. Always get a professional opinion! Good luck and drive safe!

Hey guys, I appreciate the help! It's comforting to know you two have had similar experiences with your SEAT cars. I was getting worried, since my Tarraco has served me well without any major problems till now. So, it looks like I better book an appointment with a good mechanic and get this crankcase ventilation system checked out. I'll keep in mind about the cost too. Don't want to let this fester and eventually lead to bigger engine issues, that's for sure! Thank you both for your inputs. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Take care and happy motoring, fellas! Cheers!
