Hey, Wow! Your experience is strikingly similar to what's going on with my XC60 right now. Trust me, it's a huge relief to know I wasn't barking up the wrong tree suspecting the glow plug. I'm curious though, if you don't mind me prying, any recollection on how hard this glow plug issue hit the wallet? And since having it fixed, did any other issues pop up related to this or it's been smooth sailing? Cheers for the insights and advice. They're priceless to me in this not-so-fun situation.

Hey! Glad to hear my experience is helping. To answer your question, the glow plug replacement didn't exactly come cheap - it ran me about 560€, all in. But honestly, considering the peace of mind it brought, and the smoother run I've had with my Volvo XC90 since then, I'd say it was money well spent. And to your other question, it's been smooth sailing after the fix. No more pre-glow light dramas or black smoky exhausts. Hit up a good mechanic, get that glow plug issue sorted, and you should be good to go. Fingers crossed it turns out to be as simple and relatively painless for your XC60 as it was for my XC90. Take care and best of luck with your car!

Hey Again, Thanks for sharing the rough costs. I was bracing myself for a steep one and honestly 560€ fits the expectation. True, it's a small price to pay for peace of mind, considering the mess it's causing right now. Your words have shed some light on this tormenting situation and given me a direction to go. Off to find a decent mechanic who knows their Volvos inside out. Hopefully, this glow plug drama ends soon, and my XC60 goes back to running smoothly! Appreciate your advice and good wishes, cheers for that! Enjoy your smooth sailing with XC90.

Hey there! Your situation sounds remarkably like my 2017 Volvo XC90 had a few moons ago. Very similar symptoms - Check engine light was on, pre-glow light wouldn't go out, and there was this weird black smoke. Not to mention, the old girl would take ages to warm up, and don't get me started on trying to start the thing! Turns out, just like you suspected, it was indeed the glow plug causing the bulk of the issues. My mechanic, a trustworthy bloke, figured it out after doing a full code scan. He explained to me that a glow plug can fail due to regular wear and tear, and with diesel engines, a faulty one can cause DPF regeneration failure. That, in turn, can lead to a decrease in fuel efficiency and possibly even cause black smoke to puff out the exhaust. SWAP was obligatory in my case, but lucky me, it was nothing serious. Like a band-aid removal, you know? Quick and relatively painless, and then we were good to go! So, feels to me like you're on the right track thinking it might be the glow plug. Would say it's worth getting it checked out by a mechanic you trust. Look for one who knows their Volvos and you should be just fine! Trust this was helpful. Best of luck with your XC60!
