Thanks for the response! Not good that we're in the same boat but glad to hear I’m not the only one. It’s great to have some help! As for my oil, I’ve been using the recommended 5W-30 oil, but I haven’t changed it recently. Regarding the last service, it's very recent, at a mileage of 74,869 KM to be precise. The thing is, the issue started showing up a week after the service was done. They changed all my filters and did the routine maintenance but seems like it didn't solve the problem. With the oil light on and the engine making noises, it's pretty clear they’ve missed something. Not sure if it's a coolant issue, but I'll check that out too. Appreciate your help on this one!

Well, that's a right pickle, isn't it? Poor ol' car. With what you're telling me, your issue might be a bit more folksy than expected. We've got the same engine running under the hood after all, your 2016 S80 and my 2014 S60. In my ol' S60, I had to deal with something similar, right after a service. The mechanics missed an important thing: metal shavings. They can hitch a ride during an oil change if something's not perfectly clean. They ended up in the oil sump, causing no small amount of havoc. That might explain your oil light and engine noises. About the overheating, I'd definitely look into the coolant like I mentioned before. Also, a faulty oil temperature sensor might not read the correct temperature, doesn't necessarily mean it's causing the overheat. My bit of advice: Have a pro check your engine thoroughly. The entire scenario with the oil light, overheat and shavings, it's pointing towards a hard-driving engine problem. Better safe than sorry! Keep me posted. We’ll crack this one!

Couldn't agree more! I award you the noble title of "Dodgy Volvo Whisperer". Thanks for the massive help through all of this. I was indeed a bit concerned that the vanishing act my oil was doing seemed a bit odd given the recent service. Having your explanation about oil contamination and metal shavings provides a possible answer to my engine's magic trick! You're absolutely right; it's time to move this one up to the professionals before a small problem morphs into a dinosaur-sized one. I'll have a sit-down chat with them about the oil light, the strange engine tunes it's been performing, and the shavings you've mentioned. I won't leave the coolant issue unattended either. Appreciate you linking the oil temperature sensor with the overheating rather than being the direct cause. For now, I think that does it for me. That's enough car trouble for a week without hitting the road! Over and out. I'll keep you posted on how things turn. Thanks again, and good luck with your vehicles. Cheers!

Hey, seems like we've both had a run of bad luck! I've got a 2014 Volvo S60 that had a similar issue not so long ago. I'm no professional mechanic, but I've got some experience under the hood from working on my own vehicles. In my case, it turned out to be my coolant level was too low. Took it into my local workshop and the guys there topped up the fluids - it only cost me about 52.50 Euro, pretty cheap fix. On a second thought, your oil light being on and the engine noises are pretty concerning. Sounds like your problem could be more than just low coolant. What's the status of your oil and filters? Any recent changes or services done? This will help me to give you an even more accurate advice. Can you also share what type of oil you’re currently using? Let's get this sorted!
