Seeking Advice: '05 Volvo XC70 Keyless Entry and Light Issues

Dim or flickering lights

|

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

Hey guys, I need your advice related to my '05 Volvo XC70 with a gas engine and a mileage of about 196,851 km. Recently, I've noticed two major problems that have me worried: I'm unable to lock/unlock my car and my lights are behaving pretty erratically (dimming and flickering). I had a bad run-in with a mechanic recently, so I'm pretty nervous about taking it in again. I'm suspecting an issue with the keyless entry system. Has anyone dealt with something similar? How was your experience when taking it to the garage? I'd love to hear about your experiences and any advice you can give. Thanks in advance!

Hey, totally get your worries, my '02 Volvo V70 faced pretty much the same issue not so long ago. Keyless entry was acting bonkers and it was all down to the cable connection to the outside door handle's electronics. It wasn't exactly a straight forward issue but by no means was it catastrophic. Got it fixed at the garage. Apart from driving me nuts for a few days, it didn't turn out to be super serious. Just some technical stuff like troubleshooting, assessing the cables and reconnecting some parts. All got sorted and the old girl's been running sweet ever since. Hope this helps, good luck!

Hey there! Reading your response gives me some peace of mind knowing it's not the end of the world for my Volvo. I'm curious though - do you still remember how much the repair set you back? And besides the bonkers keyless entry, has anything else cropped up since you got it fixed? Any other gremlins? Would appreciate your input. Cheers!

Hey! Glad to hear you're feeling a bit reassured now. As far as the costs go, I do remember coughing up around 170€. Not exactly pocket change, but definitely worth it to get that cable connection to the outside door handle sorted. Since taking care of that pesky keyless entry issue, my Volvo's been behaving herself, no new gremlins to report. She's been purring like a kitten and the fix seems to have sorted the issue for good. Hope this helps - good luck with the repair!

Thanks a bunch for the detailed response! Really appreciate it. The cost bit is a bit of a sting but hey, if it gets my Volvo back on track, it's worth it. Genuinely relieved to hear about no new troubles cropping up for you. Gives me hope that this is just a small hurdle and not a never-ending saga of issues. I guess I'll gear up and get it sorted then. Thanks again for sharing your experience and advice, it helped a ton. Fingers crossed for a smooth fix! Cheers!
