Hey! I came across the exact same issue on my 2017 VW TCross a few months back, and's right! An underperforming alternator was at the heart of my troubles. It was over-draining the emergency battery trying to compensate for the main one. Had to replace the alternator and recharge the emergency battery. If you don't mind me asking, do you remember how much you forked out for the repair? And everything been smooth sailing since or were there any other surprises? Working on budgeting for the repair, so any info would be a great help! Cheers!
Hey, yeah, I definitely remember that hit to the wallet! The damage came down to 110.00 € for fixing the completely drained emergency call system battery. I've got to tell ya, since getting it sorted, the ride's been smooth as silk with no more surprises - relief, right? The old girl hasn't given me a single problem since seeing the mechanic. Keep your chin up. Once this is done and dusted, you'll be back on the road in no time. Good luck with it all!
Cheers for the solid advice, guys! An issue with the alternator doesn't sound too far off from what I was suspecting. I'm relieved to hear that since getting it fixed, it's been smooth sailing for both of you without any further issues. I'll seek a reliable mechanic and get my car's alternator and batteries checked without delay. Budgeting for the repair is a bit of a bummer, but hearing the potential cost from your experiences definitely helps me to prepare! Fingers crossed, I hope to be back cruising smoothly very soon. Thanks again for the valuable insight!
Hey there, I actually had a similar issue with my 2015 VW Tiguan a while back. First things first, issues like flickering lights and problematic startups are indeed quite often related to the battery. In my case, it wasn't precisely the main battery, but the emergency call system battery, working overtime due to an issue with the main one, ended up being completely drained. Got it checked at my regular garage, and they confirmed that the alternator was not functioning right, causing the battery not to get a proper charge. This could be your problem too, as your symptoms seem to match mine from back then. The alternator needed a replacement, and they also had to recharge the drained emergency battery. In a nutshell, seek a trustworthy mechanic to check your alternator's performance and charging system. It's not the end of the world but needs immediate attention to mitigate any further issues. Over time, a weak battery will strain other components, ultimately leading to a hefty repair. Best luck!
