Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Wiper and Headlight Cleaning System Issues on 2000 Kia Retona
Wipers don't work properly
Headlight cleaning system without function

Hey! Appreciate the feedback. That's quite interesting about the steering column switch cable. Let's see, beyond what I've mentioned before, it's difficult to provide more symptoms. Sometimes they function properly, sometimes they don't. However, I've noticed the wipers acting up mostly during heavy downpours. And I don't think I've ever seen the headlight cleaning system operate properly. My Kia Retona's clocked in around 195653 KM. I haven't got it serviced recently, so that might be playing a part. I hope this gives you a better picture. Cheers!
Howdy! Thanks for getting back with more details. The intermittent issue you're mentioning could indeed point towards a connection issue, as it was in my case with the Sportage. However, there could be other possibilities depending on the exact problem. The wipers' tendency to act up during heavy rain could indicate that your Kia Retona might be having an issue with the wiper motor, which sometimes doesn't perform under load. It might be worth checking if the motor is functioning right under different weather conditions. As for the headlight cleaning system, lack of function could mean one of several things: a hose or pump might be damaged/blocked, or it could even be the switch itself. A detailed check of the system would probably reveal the issue. The older your Retona gets, these gremlins do tend to show up more often I reckon. And yep, regular service does play a huge part in keeping them at bay. If you haven't done one recently, I would recommend getting it checked thoroughly by a trusted mechanic. Just my two cents based on my own experience with Kia models. Hope this helps you out a bit more! Safe driving!
Howdy! Thank you for your in-depth response. I hadn't considered the wiper motor acting up under load, that's certainly a new perspective. And the headlight cleaning system issues may very well be down to what you've mentioned. I think it's high time this old girl saw the inside of a workshop again. I'll book it into one and get all these issues checked out by a pro. Your two cents have been more than valuable got me on the right track I reckon. Safe travels to you too! Cheers!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my Kia Sportage, 2002 model. I've got some car experience but had to take it to my local workshop for this one. Turned out it was my steering column switch cable connection that was defective. Fixing it cost me around 155€. Might be a similar problem with your Retona. Could you tell me more about your car's symptoms? I might be able to help you further with more details. Cheers!
