Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Transmission Issues in a 2023 Seat Tarraco with a Gasoline Engine

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Whining or grinding noises

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I've got a 2023 Seat Tarraco with a Gasoline engine that's started acting up lately. It's showing some strange behaviors. Transmission slips unusually, makes a grinding sound while shifting gears, and there's this ongoing whining noise. It crossed my mind that it might be an issue with the Transmission oil pressure cooler. Has anyone come across something like this before? How did you nail down the problem and get it fixed in your workshop? I'm open to all tips and experiences to get a better understanding of what I'm dealing with. Thanks!

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2021 Seat Ateca. I'm not a car expert, but I've got some experience playing around with my own ride. I checked everything possible but ended up finding the root cause as a defective valve cable connection. Getting to know about it also took me some time, trial and error at my own small garage space. I had it fixed by a professional mechanic and paid about €170. Not fun, but it sorted everything out. Could you provide a bit more detail about your car's behavior? I might be able to shed more light having gone through a similar issue. How's the fluid level? When were your transmission fluids last changed? And the model specifics would help to compare it better to my Ateca. Hope this helps somewhat, and we can figure this out together!

Hey, thanks for the response! Great to have a friend who knows a thing or two about cars. My Tarraco's been driven 77,074 KM so far. As for the fluids, I got them changed during the last service, which was pretty recently. The fluid level seems fine too, no obvious leaks anywhere. It's quite annoying since the whole transmission slippage doesn't really have a pattern, it's all so unusual. And that grinding sound while shifting gears is making me nuts. I sincerely thought it might be the oil pressure cooler, but your valve cable connection issue makes me think twice. I might give that a check next. Appreciate your help, dude! Let me know if you need more details.

Hey! No worries, happy to help where I can! Your transmission does seem to be behaving quite strangely, it's a bit of a mystery indeed. On my Ateca, I noticed symptoms similar to yours a little bit and it turned out to be the valve cable connection. But it's really hard to say without getting hands on with it. Since you've already confirmed your fluid levels and have had them changed recently, that kind of rules out one common cause. However, I would suggest checking the fluid condition too. If it's a dark color and has a burnt smell, it may indicate wear and tear on the transmission components. Also, considering your car's mileage, it's quite possible for some small parts to start wearing out, which could potentially cause such issues. Definitely worth checking the valve cable connection as it was my nemesis, but don't restrict yourself to that one cause alone. I have to say though, the inconsistencies do make it seem a bit trickier to pinpoint. You could try a couple of things I did manually - like resetting the Transmission Control Module (TCM), checking for potential transmission software update, and even replacing the solenoids. They didn't hit the mark for me initially, but it's worth a shot. And if nothing turns out to be the culprit, you may have to go the professional route and get a full transmission diagnostic or rebuild if necessary. I know it may not be what you'd like to hear, but sometimes it's the safest and most time-efficient option. Hope this helps and do keep me updated. always here to chat cars! Cheers!

Good shout! I've been keeping an eye on the fluid condition, it seems to be alright so far. The color seems fine and no burnt smell to worry about. I gotta agree, this inconsistent mess is a tricky beast. I'll give the valve cable connection a check. And, resetting the Transmission Control Module and checking for software update seems worth trying too. The solenoids can be a long shot, but hey, it's worth a try before enlisting the pros. You're right about the professional diagnostic. That thought's been dancing around in my mind, might have to take that step if all else fails. I was always ready for it, would just prefer to fix it myself if possible, you know what I mean? Thanks for the detailed advice. Can't tell you how much I appreciate it! Let's hope one of these approaches solves the problem or at least brings me closer to the root cause. I'll keep you posted on how things roll. Cheers!
