Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Startup and Power Issues in a 2010 Diesel Volvo C70

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Car won't start

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey folks! My 2010 Diesel Volvo C70's been acting up recently. I've noticed it won't start sometimes, lights seem to dim or flicker, and there's a constant warning light on the speedometer. The battery seems weak on start-up too. My gut tells me it's down to a message error. Anyone else had this problem? I'd love to hear from people who've had similar issues, how they pinpointed the problem and got it sorted. Any tips or advice are greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Hey there! So, I've got a 2009 Volvo S80 Diesel, which is pretty similar to your C70. Would classify my car skills as low experience at best, but I've dealt with an issue that sounds familiar to what you’re going through. In my case, a visit to the local workshop pinpointed that the root of the problem was a defective cable connection of the control unit to the BUS system. The mechanics sorted it out and it set me back around 260 Euro, but it was definitely worth it. If I'd had better know-how, I could've tried sorting it myself, but it's tricky stuff. Might be a good idea to check with your local workshop. By the way, can you share more details about your ride? Like mileage, recent parts replacements, stuff like that? Might get us a clearer picture. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the response! Appreciate you sharing your experience with your S80. I've not replaced any major parts recently, just the usual service maintenance stuff, you know? About the mileage, I'm currently at 95498 KM. I'll be sure to have my local workshop look at the connection of the control unit to the BUS system, like they did for your car. As for my car skills, sounds we're in the same boat, lol. Thanks again for the tip, let's hope this solves my car woes. Cheers!

Haha, no worries! I'm glad I could help. Seems like your car is doing pretty well considering its mileage, being close to a hundred thousand KM. That's pretty solid for a 2010 Volvo C70! Based on my experience, the only major thing I can suggest is if you haven't replaced the battery already since you owned it, it might be due for a replacement. Especially since you mentioned about the dim lights and weak battery on start-up. Everyday wear and tear can degrade car's battery over time. Also, warning lights do sometimes indicate electrical faults, so it does sound like the BUS system check-up is the best course of action here. Definitely better to be safe and get it checked. In the end, knowing nothing about cars and still managing to keep them running, that's something, right? Anyways, keep us updated on the situation. Here's to hoping it's a quick and cheap fix! Break a leg, you!

Yo, I knew there was a reason I asked advice here, folks know their stuff! Thanks for regarding my car's mileage as doing well, had a few people tell me it's on its last legs, but I reckon she's got a bit of gas left in her, haha! I think it’s a really good point about the battery, it's been a while since it was replaced, probably an oversight on my part. It might even be the original which is like 11 years old now—mental! And yes, the BUS system check-up seems inevitable now. Agree that it's better to be safe than sorry. Haha, indeed, keeping them running is something especially when you know zilch about cars! I will keep you posted for sure. Really appreciate the support and advice. Catch you soon! Fingers crossed it isn't an expensive fix, haha! Cheers!
