Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Multiple Issues with 2017 Dacia Lodgy

Loss of engine power

Poor fuel economy

Unsteady engine

Engine shuts off by itself

Check engine light on

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

Stalling while idling

Strong exhaust smell

Hey! I'm having some serious trouble with my 2017 Dacia Lodgy (Gas variant). It's been acting out lately with a host of issues - black smoke on acceleration, the check engine light is continuously on, frequent engine shutdowns, noticeable power loss, and an unsteady, jerky ride. To add to this, I'm also noticing a significant drop in fuel economy, potent exhaust smell, along with stalling while idling. I'm suspecting a possible issue with the Fuel volume regulator, but could use some insights from you guys to zero-in on the problem. Have any of you experienced similar issues? How did your mechanic resolve them and what was your experience like? Any input would be appreciated, cheers!

Hey there, I've got some similar experience with my 2015 Dacia Duster, which should be quite close to your Lodgy. I'm not a car whiz by any stretch, but I've learnt to tackle a few car issues on my own now. My Duster had similar symptoms and it turned out the high-pressure pump was defective. The pump was replaced at my local workshop. The mechanic there was solid, explained everything, and took care of replacing the faulty part. In terms of cost, it wasn't the least expensive repair ever, it set me back by about 1510€ - an unexpected chunk of cash for sure! I hope this helps, but could you tell me more about your Lodgy - things like how many miles it's been driven, when you last did a complete servicing? The more you can share, the easier it might be for me, or anyone else, to give you a better idea to tackle your car issue. Fingers crossed it's an easy fix!

Ahoy! Thanks a bunch for your insight, it does shed a fair bit of light on my predicament. Always good to hear what has been tried and tested, I reckon. My Lodgy has had a good run, pushing at around 123907 KM on the odometer, and the last complete servicing was around the 100000 KM mark. Been dealing with these issues pretty much since the last service, which is turning out to be a massive headache. Seems like I'll be digging into my pockets a fair bit, just like you had to with your Duster! Anyway, I'll look into the high-pressure pump issue you mentioned. Cheers for that! Onwards and upwards from here, I suppose!

Hey! Sounds like you've been having a bit of a rough run with your Lodgy eh! Not to be the bearer of bad news but with the mileage you've got on your car, it's around that time when certain parts might need replacing - the high-pressure pump being a likely candidate from my experience. Given that your problems started after the 100,000 KM service mark, it's quite plausible. No one likes a chunky bill but sometimes it's the price we pay to keep our rides purring and reliable. When dealing with these kind of issues, my go-to strategy has always been to tackle them head-on, rather than waiting for things to (potentially) get worse. And remember, even though I shared my experience with the high-pressure pump, it could well be a different issue in your case. It wouldn't hurt to also get your mechanic to have a look at the fuel volume regulator - it was your initial doubt, and you might just be on to something there. Best of luck with it all! And keep us updated with your progress - we're all in this together, even if it's only in spirit. Here's to hoping it's an easier (and cheaper) fix than we're imagining!

Absolutely, I second that! Been a real tough go with the Lodgy lately and you're probably right about certain parts needing replacement due to the mileage. I reckon that might be the case here - no way around it, I suppose. You know, your tactic seems very sound, indeed. Waiting around ain't going to make this any better, so might as well face it head-on. I'll get a mechanic to cardinally inspect the high-pressure pump as well as the fuel volume regulator, as you rightly suggested. I'll surely keep you guys posted about the progress. Can't thank you enough for your support - definitely lessens the blow a bit, even if it's just through shared experiences and advice. Here's hoping for a swift and cost-effective resolution! Cheers!
