Yo, Just hit the 112508 KM mark on my Duster and had my last service a few months back. I've been using 10W-40 oil, same as the mechanic suggested. Your reply kinda confirms my suspicions about the oil pump. It's a bummer but guess I'll have to fork over the cash to get it fixed. I'll check-in with my local garage as well to see what they say. Fingers crossed it doesn't burn too much of a hole in my pocket! Thanks for your advice. Much appreciated!
No worries! Yep, we're on the same page here. With those miles and the 10W-40 oil, your oil pump has had a pretty good run. Not a mechanic here, just a bloke who's been through the same with his Duster. I might add this, if your oil pressure light is flickering, avoid driving the car as much as possible. Otherwise, the engine bearings could go really bad, and you might be looking at an even bigger bill. So, quickest way to get this sorted is at your local garage. They'll probably want to replace the oil pump, clean out the sludge and metal shavings. That might do the trick, and get your Duster purring like before. Just a heads up, the cost might vary depending on where you stay. Keep me posted about what they say and good luck!
Hey, thanks for the heads up! Yeah, I've been trying to avoid taking the Duster out ever since the oil light started throwing a fuss. Wouldn't want to mess up the engine any more than it already is, right? Hopefully the garage won't keep it too long or tip me over the edge with the repair cost. Your experience is quite similar to my situation so it really helps to know what I'm potentially in for. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Thanks again!
Hey there, I'm no car guru, but I've got some experience. Had a bit of a similar situation with my 2008 Dacia Logan. Def sounds like an oil pump issue, same symptoms before mine eventually crapped out. Took the Logan to my local garage, good guys. The mechanic found metal bits in the oil, and the oil light was flickering on/off. The odd engine noises and the valve adjustment noise clinched it - was the oil pump alright. Ended up costing me a cool 755 Euro to get the pump replaced and the system purged. In your case, you might wanna check the mileage and the oil type you’ve been using for your Duster. More details like last service, etc. might help me help you a bit better. Ideally, best to get it checked ASAP. Hope this helps!
