Hi there! Cheers for the heads-up. Looks like we're sailing the same boat here. My ride just crossed the 120285 KM mark. I got the latest service done about a couple of months ago. It's all stock, no aftermarket gizmos fitted. I did, however, have to replace the air filters after the last service. But that's just a routine thing, right? Your experience with the camshaft adjustment does sound eerily familiar though. I suppose I'll have to bite the bullet on this one. The repair cost does sound a bit steep, but if it needs to be done, then so be it. I'll get in touch with my mechanic first thing tomorrow and hope for the best. Thanks again for your advice, much appreciated!
Hey there! Always glad to lend a hand to a fellow Lexus driver. Yeah, from my experience, it definitely does sound like a camshaft adjustment issue. Although it's worth noting that 120285KM is quite significant, so I wouldn't be too surprised if other parts were beginning to wear out as well. Of course, replacing air filters is basic service procedure and shouldn't have given you such trouble, so clearly something's up. Sure, the repair cost might seem a bit on the pricier side, but honestly, it's worth considering given all the symptoms you're witnessing. But also remember, every case is unique. And while our situations are eerily similar, it doesn't necessarily mean that the culprit behind your issues is the same. You might want to get your mechanic to run a thorough check-up focusing on the camshaft but keeping a general lookout for other typical wear and tear. Just a quick tip, do mind the metal shavings in the oil. That's a sign of mechanical wear, and depending on how they got there, it could potentially lead to or indicate a more severe problem. Is it possible for you to take a sample of the shavings and show it to your mechanic? And don't feel too down about it. Every car has its moments, and dealing with issues like these is part of the ownership experience, even if they're a pain sometimes. Keep us updated on how it goes, and fingers crossed that it's nothing too serious! Drive safe!
Awesome! I appreciate the additional insight big time. You're indeed right about my car's mileage and it’s high time I considered some other latent parts issues. I'm surely gonna request my mechanic to do a thorough check-up keeping your advice in mind. As for the metal shavings, yes, it scared me quite a bit too. I'll definitely collect some and hand it over to the mechanic. Your reassurance does make me feel better though. I suppose every car presents its own set of quirks and challenges and it's all part of the journey. I'll keep you guys posted on the fix. Cheers and safe driving to you too!
Hey there! To kick this off, let me admit openly that I have some experience with cars; I'm not an expert by any means, but know enough to toss a spanner around. Your issue sounds super similar to something that went on with my 2020 Lexus RX a while back. I noticed virtually the same symptoms on my car before I took it to my local garage. It turned out to be a defective camshaft adjustment cable/plug, which was oily as well. Just like your gut suggested! So, your instinct might be spot on. In terms of cost, my mechanic charged me about 395€ to fix it all up. Not the cheapest repair, but it had to be done. The lads at the workshop were superb, explained the issue in layman's terms, and took care of the whole thing during a day. That being said though, I'd love to weigh in better. Do you mind sharing more specifics about your vehicle? Like the exact model and any recent work you may have done, or aftermarket products installed? That might help me understand your issue more thoroughly. Good luck!
