Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Cruise Control Fault in 2017 Volvo XC60 Diesel

Cruise control without function

Fault stored

Hey fellow motorheads! I've got a bit of a tricky situation with my 2017 Volvo XC60 Diesel engine. Lately, it's been acting somewhat weird, especially with the cruise control - it's decided to go on vacation and it's showing a fault. I've got a hunch that this could be behind my issue, but honestly, I'm scratching my head over here, not really narrowing it down. Has anyone experienced something like this? How did you troubleshoot it and what did your mechanic end up doing to fix the cruise control? Appreciate any tips and experiences you can share!

Hey! I had an eerily similar problem with my 2015 Volvo XC90 Diesel a while back. I'd classify myself as having low-ish car experience, so initially, I was pretty stumped too. Took my ride to a local workshop, and turns out, the cable connection to the sensor had decided to be a pain. They replaced the faulty cable and ran a thorough check to ensure everything else was working fine. Ain't gonna beat around the bush, it cost me 155 Euro, but it was worth it given the frustration it was causing me. Anyway, can you specify your mileage? It's also worth checking if you've had any major repairs done recently. This information would help us dig deeper into the problem. Hang in there!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience, really appreciate it. My Volvo's clocked a fair bit of miles, about 134,608 KM to be exact. Can't think of any major repairs recently, just got my last service done at 130000KM, pretty standard stuff, you know. Now that you mention the sensor cable, I'll double check that. 155 Euro doesn't sound too bad if it solves the issue. Cheers for the tip!

Not a problem! Ah, your Volvo's got a good number of miles under the hood. Now here's where it gets interesting. You've got a service done pretty recently, right? Sometimes, especially with complex tech like cruise control, it can act up right after routine maintenance. Happens more than you'd care to know! Perhaps check the work that'd been done during the last service. There's a chance something could've been disturbed or not fitted back correctly. So, it wouldn't hurt to poke around the bay, maybe giving those cable connections a good ole tug test. But if it all feels Greek to you, do consider taking it to a trustworthy mechanic. It's better than going down the rabbit hole blindly, right? Good luck!

Absolutely! Couldn't agree more with your point on the routine maintenance bit. I remember my having trouble with his stereo after a service once, who'd ever thought! I've decided to spend some quality time in the garage tomorrow and poke around the bay as you suggested. If it's too Greek for me to handle, then the mechanic it is. Lucky for me, there's a decent Volvo service place nearby. Cheers for your help and advice! Time to roll the sleeves up!
