Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Check Engine Light, Reduced Mileage, and Exhaust Odor in 2022 Renault Arkana Gasoline Model

Check engine light on

|

Strong exhaust smell

|

Poor fuel economy

Hey folks, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my 2022 Renault Arkana powered by a gasoline engine. The old gal has been acting up lately – the check engine light is on, mileage isn't what it used to be, and there's a pungent odor coming out of the exhaust. My gut tells me the air valve might be on the fritz, but I wanted to see if anyone else has faced a similar issue and how they sorted it out. Any workshop fixes or DIY solutions will be really appreciated. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences. Cheers!

Hey there, I actually struggled with a super similar issue on my 2020 Renault Captur not too long ago, so I might be able to lend a somewhat experienced hand, despite my rather low level of car expertise. I took my car down to my local workshop, and after a bit of investigating, they found out that the cable/plug connection to the secondary air valve/air pump was defective. Thankfully, the fix wasn't too pricey – cost me about 95 euro. The performance of my Captur improved noticeably right off the bat, so it was worth it. If you could share a bit more info about your Arkana, like the exact model and mileage, I could probably give ya some more detailed advice. Hoping your car recovers soon!

Hey, thanks for the quick response. So my Arkana is the latest 2022 model, and she's run a decent 42402 km. I did get her serviced not too long ago, but it seems like this issue might not have been covered in that. Your advice sounds spot on, I'll probably swing by my local mechanic shop and get the air valve checked as you suggested. Fingers crossed, the expenses shouldn't run too high. I'll update once I have more news. Cheers for all the help!

Hey! No worries, we're in the same boat after all. With your Arkana being that new and considering the mileage you've covered, it's a bit surprising you're encountering these issues so soon. However, cars can be unpredictable sometimes, eh? Anyway, getting a thorough check done on the air valve is a good move. If it's like my case, then your problem might well be just a faulty cable or connector. Just out of curiosity, when you say you got your Arkana serviced recently, did the mechanic mention any possible issues with your exhaust system or oxygen sensor? Sometimes, these could also lead to a stronger exhaust smell and poorer fuel economy, not mentioning the check engine light. Try to sneak a peek at the diagnostic report if you can when taking your car to the mechanic next time. It might give you some hints. All the best! Looking forward to your update.

Oi, you've hit the nail on the head! Now that you mention it, during the last service, there was indeed some talk about a potential issue with the oxygen sensor. They thought it was nothing major at that time, so I didn't pay much heed. Guess I'll need to double-check on that one, too. Good advice on checking the diagnostic report. Appreciate you sharing your experience and suggestions, been a real help. Hopefully, it's as straightforward as a cable or connector issue, I can do without a hefty repair bill right now. I'll make sure to keep you posted once I get the old gal sorted out. Until then, fingers crossed. Cheers!
