Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Black Smoke and Exhaust Leak in 2021 Mazda CX3 Gasoline Model

Loss of engine power

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Strong exhaust smell

Check engine light on

Exhaust leak

Hey! I've been having some odd troubles with my 2021 Mazda CX3, Gasoline engine model. Recently it started belching out black smoke when I accelerate, the engine power's been dodgy, and I've noticed an exhaust leak accompanied by a strong exhaust smell. Oh, and the darn check engine light's on too. I'm suspecting it might be an exhaust aftertreatment malfunction but really would value second opinions. Anyone else faced a similar issue or got any clue about troubleshooting this? Also, would love to hear about your repair experience if you've got this fixed at a workshop. Cheers!

Hey there! Not an expert here, just some bloke with low car experience. Had a similar ruckus with my 2019 Mazda CX5. I reckon it was one of the lambda sensors playing up in mine, which sounds quite like your trouble. Took it to my local mechanic, cost me around 375 Euro, but they fixed it right up. Can't complain about the service either, was quick and efficient. Are you on any engine mods or stock? And has the car recently had a service? Having these details could help us dig deeper into your problems. Take care!

Hey, thanks for chiming in! Great to hear that your issue got sorted out. My Mazda CX3 is stock, no engine mods at all. Just to let you know, my last service was at 96687 KM. Hoping somebody from this stellar community could point me in the right direction to solve this nuisance. Cheers!

Hey again! If your car's all stock and got serviced recently, I'm more inclined to think that it could be a sensor issue similar to what I had. But, I gotta say, an exhaust aftertreatment malfunction could also be a possibility. I'd recommend taking your Mazda to a service center just to be safe. Your symptoms sound serious, especially the black smoke and loss of engine power. Your mileage is pretty high too, so wear and tear could be a factor here. In my case, the mechanic did a thorough inspection and determined it was the lambda sensor acting wonky which was causing similar symptoms. In your case, it could be the same or perhaps there's an issue with your car's catalytic converter as well - it's a crucial part of the exhaust aftertreatment system. I'm definitely no expert but speaking from experiences with my trusty CX5, that's where I'd look. Regarding repair experiences, my local workshop handled everything smoothly and professionally, no complaints whatsoever. But I'd say repairs could vary greatly depending on your area and the exact problem. Hope this helps you out a bit. Remember, take it to a professional just to be sure. Good luck with it I know these problems can be such a headache!

Hey there! Really appreciate your second thought on this. I agree with your points, especially about sensor issues and the possibility of a malfunction in the catalytic converter. It's high time I take my Mazda for a visit to the service center, considering the symptoms and mileage too. I'll keep you and this community posted on what the issue turns out to be. Fingers crossed, I hope they can fix this as smoothly as they did for you! Thanks for boosting my motivation, really needed that. Let's bust this headache! Cheers!
