Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting a Check Engine Light, Loss of Power, and Poor Fuel Economy in a 2014 Volvo XC70

Poor fuel economy

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

|

Unsteady engine

Hey folks, I'm having a bit of a pickle with my 2014 Volvo XC70 running on gas. The check engine light is on, and I'm noticing a power loss along with a jittery engine on acceleration. Plus, the fuel economy seems worse off than usual. I'm guessing there might be an issue with the intake air temperature sensor sendings faulty signals. Has anyone encountered something like this before with their Volvo? How did you manage to troubleshoot it? I'd really appreciate any tips or insights, especially from anyone who's sorted this out at a workshop. Cheers!

Hey there, I had a very similar issue with my 2012 Volvo V70 not too long ago. I have a bit of experience with cars, so I hate to admit it, but I was scratching my head for a while on it. Took it to my local workshop and after some diagnosis, they found that the problem was exactly what you suspect - a defective intake air temperature sensor. It ended up costing me around €155 to get it fixed. Noticed an immediate improvement in performance and fuel efficiency, plus that annoying check engine light finally turned off. By the way, it’d be of great help to know whether you've conducted any diagnostics or if any other issue been identified. Also, have you noticed any changes depending on the weather? Just throwing it out there, it helped me solve my issue. You could be in luck!

Hey, thank you so much for your time and response. Bet, I was right. I am a bit charged now to find a solution. To answer your question, I haven't conducted any diagnostics yet because I wanted to understand if this issue was familiar to anyone in the community. The weird thing is, the problems I described seem to become much more obvious when the weather is on the cooler side. I did get it serviced at 107868 KM which was not long ago and all seemed fine at that time. I will follow your lead and take the car to my local workshop. Will update once the problem gets sorted. Fingers crossed! Cheers!

That's great to hear! You're on the right track. I just wanted to share that when I had the issue, the cooler weather really exacerbated the problems for me too. I think the changes in the air density due to the temperature messes with how the sensor works. It's interesting how our cars have very similar temperaments! Getting it checked at a workshop is a pretty good call. They should be able to do a diagnostic scan to confirm the fault. Make sure they also check related connections and wiring in case the problem is more than just the sensor itself. Sometimes, these little gremlins can be tricky! Looking forward to hearing your update. Just remember not to worry too much - with cars, there's almost always a solution. Cheers and good luck!

Hey there, it’s great to hear back from you. You hit the nail right on the head about the temperature affecting the air density, making the sensor go haywire. It is indeed quite surprising to notice the similar traits in our cars. Without any further delay, I'll definitely pop over to the local workshop for a check-up. I'll make sure they inspect the related connectors and wiring, as you suggested. Can't hurt to be thorough, right? I appreciate your assurance, hoping that this problem is just a minor setback, and nothing major. I will post an update once I have one. Till then, fingers crossed and cheers for the support!
