Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting 2020 Dacia Sandero Gasoline Engine Issues

Loss of engine power

Longer cold start time

Engine shuts off by itself

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Check engine light on

Hey! I'm dealing with a peculiar issue with my 2020 Dacia Sandero Gasoline. It's showing a bunch of symptoms like the check engine light coming on, the engine turning off on its own, longer cold start times, loss of engine power, the engine running unevenly, and sometimes, it doesn't even start at all. I suspect it could be a faulty camshaft sensor but would love to hear your thoughts and how you might have dealt with similar issues. Could you share any tips, tricks or experiences about what you did in such a situation? How did your workshop resolve it? Looking forward to your insights!

Hey! I've got limited experience with cars but I can relate to your issue! I had a strikingly similar problem with my 2018 Dacia Logan Diesel a while back. It threw me for a loop, I admit. The symptoms were pretty much the same as you're describing. Ended up taking it to my local workshop and after a thorough check, they traced the problem to a defective sensor wheel on the camshafts. Repair work ran me 695€, but peace of mind, you know? Definitely worth resolving timely to avoid further issues. Now, fixing a similar issue, will depend on the exact condition and specs of your vehicle, so maybe you could share a bit more about your Sandero? Any mods, recent repairs, maintenance history at all? That might help to zero in on the best solution for you. Hope this helps a bit! Hang in there.

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience, totally agree that peace of mind is priceless! No mods have been done on my Sandero, it's pretty much stock. I've been maintaining it regularly since I got it, latest service was just a couple thousand km ago actually. Currently, the odometer shows 82835 KM. I'll get the sensor wheel on the camshafts checked as per your suggestion. Fingers crossed it isn't anything too serious. Really appreciate your help!

Hey! It's good that you've been regular with maintenance, that actually helps prolong your vehicle's life for sure! Now regarding your situation, considering the age of your Sandero and its mileage, and the fact it's been regularly serviced, I'd say you're on the right track suspecting sensor issues. My experience suggests the destructive effects of a faulty camshaft position sensor are often underestimated. And yes, it does correlate with your symptoms. It's your best bet to get the camshaft sensor and the sensor wheel examined at a professional workshop. Also, don't ignore the importance of a proper diagnostic scan tool. It's worth the investment, at least the workshop ones. They could reveal error codes related to your issue that might not even appear as active errors on your dashboard. Keep me updated on what you find out! Stay optimistic! This is just part of owning a car, you got this. Ultimately, give priority to safety and the well-being of your Dacia, as you've been doing so far!

Hey! On the money advice! You couldn't be more right about the importance of a proper diagnostic scan tool. The workshop I go to does have one. Will make sure to inform them to take a closer look at the camshaft sensor and the sensor wheel when I take my car in next. Fingers crossed, it's just a sensor issue. Will keep you posted on how it all pans out! Really appreciate the guidance and support. Owning a car sure is an adventure on its own, isn't it? Thanks again!
