Hey! I'm having a pretty strange issue with my 2015 Kia Carens Gasoline model. She's showing the check engine light, losing power, stuttering while accelerating, and burning through fuel rather fast. Also, when I pop the hood, I've been hearing abnormal noises from the valves and something else rather weird. Spotted metal fragments in the oil too - not good! I have a hunch that this might be down to a faulty camshaft adjustment, just guessing tho'. Has anyone seen this before? Got any tips for pinpointing the problem, or any advice on how to handle this at the repair shop? Hoping for some quirky Kia wisdom from the community here. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! It seems like I've dealt with something similar not too long ago on my 2017 Kia Sorento Diesel -- pretty close to yours. For context, I'm your average Joe with some basic car experience, nothing too technical. Your hunch could be right. In my case, there was a defect with one of the neck shaft solenoid valves and it wasn't getting proper power supply. No power got translated into poor performance, weird noises, and metal fragments, very much like your situation. What I did? Just took it over to my trusting local mechanic, no biggie. Those fellas knew what they're doing and sorted out things real quick. Cost me around €250.0, which I think was a good deal considering the issue. Now, gotta pull you up on some info as well. Can you mention the specific model of your Carens? Mileage would be a help too! Might help us to get to the bottom of this. Let me know, and we can go from there!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your similar experience. It helps knowing I'm not shouting into the wind about my problem. My Carens is an LX model and she's got 12636 km on her. Serviced her not too long ago, so it's odd to see this happening! I'll definitely have her checked by my trusted mechanic and I'll discuss with him about the neck shaft solenoid valves. Hope it'll be sorted without making a deep hole in my pocket - fingers crossed! Thanks again for your advice, it's well appreciated. Cheers!

Hey there! No problem at all, glad my weird experience with Diesel could shed a little light for you there with your Carens Gasoline LX model. It's always a bummer when our trusty vehicles get moody, especially after a fresh service! Definitely have that chat about the neck shaft solenoid valves - sounds a whole lot like that could be it. And hey, if it's any consolation, 12636 km isn't a whole lot for a Kia like yours. I bet she'll be back to ship shape in no time! Just one more thing came to my mind - when you're at the mechanic, considering the metal fragments and stuff, maybe ask them to check the oil pump and camshaft bearings as well. I remember my mechanic mentioning that word salad during my fix-up, might be worth a shot. Doesn't hurt to know, right? Cheers and take care! Let us know how it goes once it's all sorted. That quirky Kia wisdom keeps us all running.

Hey, you hit the nail on the head with that advice! Really appreciate all that wisdom. Hadn't thought about the oil pump and camshaft bearings, so that's good advice; I'll make sure to get those checked out as well. And yeah, I hope my Kia has many more kilometers in her too! All in all, you've given me a better idea of which way to steer this and given me a bit more peace of mind. Will surely let you know how it goes. You're spot on - it's this kind of community support that makes this all less of a chore. Smashing help, thank you and cheers!
