Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting 2015 Fiat Punto Overheating Issue and Engine Damage Signs

Overheating

Weird engine noise

Oil light on

Metal shavings in oil

Hey! I've got a 2015 Fiat Punto with a Gasoline engine giving me a hard time lately. Noticed the oil light on, overheating, some strange engine noise, and found metal shavings in the oil. Think the engine oil temp sensor could be off but not entirely sure. Anyone experienced something similar and have any tips on troubleshooting this issue? Particularly keen on hearing how you got it sorted out at the workshop or if there's anything else I should look into. Appreciate any advice. Cheers!

Hey there! I'll take a stab at helping out 'cos I've had a similar problem. I've got a 2013 Fiat Bravo, so fairly close to your Punto. Now, I ain't no mechanic, reckon I've got some basic experience sorting out car stuff, but nothing too advanced. My engine light was giving me gyp and turns out my Coolant level was too low. Took it to my local workshop and my go-to-guy pointed to the coolant unfinished business. Topped it up and that sorted the issue out - cost me 52€. You mentioned some gnarly engine noise and shavings, it might be something more serious on yours. Would need more info about your car's symptoms - things like when the issue started, any modifications you've done, the last time you had an oil change, that sort of thing. Hope this is enough to start tackling your Punto's woes!

Hey, thanks for chiming in! To give you more context, these issues started a couple of weeks ago. No modifications have been made to the car since I bought it. As for the oil change, it was done with the last service at 145678 KM km. It's quite troubling, so I guess I'll take it to a professional to check what's going on with the engine. Still, any other suggestions are more than welcome! Cheers!

Howdy again! Cheers for the extra info on your ride. Sounds like you're treating her right with regular maintenance and such. Now, I ain't sure if it's the exact same issue with my Bravo, but hearing you say the troubles started a few weeks back and considering there haven't been any mods, it's sounding like it could be engine wear and tear. Those metal shavings and the weird noise? That might be your engine's way of crying out for help, saying some parts are grinding that shouldn't. Not a comforting thought, I know, but good on ya for planning to get a pro's opinion. In my case, the coolant trick was a good quick fix. But with the oil light, noise and overheating, you might be looking at some deeper underlying issue, possibly a problem with the oil pump or engine bearings. Fired up my courage and asked around some forums when I got my Bravo. The out there were nice and prompt in helping with advice. Thought I'd pass on the good karma! Stay positive. Keep us posted about what the mechanic says. And hey, don't forget to ask them about that engine oil temp sensor you mentioned. It could still be a part of the puzzle, y'know.

Hey! I really appreciate your insights and advice! That absolutely gives me some points to discuss with the mechanic. When it comes to cars, it's unfortunately easy to miss few things here and there but, you know, I'm still learning. I'll definitely keep you updated on what the mechanic has to say about the oil pump, engine bearings and also the temp sensor. Fingers crossed it's nothing too intense. Thanks a bunch for the help and passing on the good karma! Cheers!
