Engine shuts off by itself

Hey folks, I'm having a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2006 Volvo C30 Gasoline. It's acting up recently, throwing few symptoms like the check engine light's on, it's been shutting off unexpectedly, cold starts are taking longer than usual, noticeable power loss, and the engine isn't steady. Not to mention, it jerks upon acceleration and sometimes won't start. I suspect a faulty fuel pump, but not entirely sure yet. Has anyone experienced this? What was your fix and can you share your experience at the workshop? Cheers!

Hey there! I had a slightly similar problem with my 2008 Volvo V50 Diesel, pretty much the same vibes as your C30. Just to clear the air, I'm a car enthusiast with some hands-on experience, so I'm no pro, but not a newbie either. My V50 started showing most of the symptoms you've mentioned. I was also suspecting a fuel pump issue, but it turned out to be Incorrect software values for the fuel pump. I took my car to my trusted local mechanic, explained my worries, and they suggested running a full diagnostic. After the diagnosis, he updated the car's software, and it worked like a charm - No more symptoms! I shelled out about 45 Euro for the software update, including the diagnosis, which seemed reasonable to me. Sounds like you might be dealing with a similar issue. Can you tell me if you've done any recent updates or modifications to your ride? It could give a better clue. It goes without saying, though, a good diagnostic from a reliable mechanic won't hurt. Keep us posted!

Hey, and thanks for taking the time to reply! I appreciate the advice, and it definitely gives me a new direction since I haven't touched anything software-related yet. No modifications or updates have been done to my ride so far. Just the usual scheduled servicing, with the latest being carried out when my C30 clocked 35,791 KM. Seeing how software might be a potential culprit, I'll give that a shot. Will take my car for a diagnostic check and explore the software update pathway. I'll loop back in with updates on this. Thanks again! Cheers!

Absolutely no problem! We car enthusiasts gotta stick together, right? I'm really glad to hear you're considering the software side of things. Nowadays, these modern cars are as much about software as they are about hardware. It's great that you've been keeping up with your scheduled servicing - that's half the battle won. When you said no changes had been made recently, it just made the suspicion go stronger towards a software glitch. Don't forget to ask your mechanic to check for any software updates that your C30 might be due for. It might just turn out to be as simple as a software adjustment. Looking forward to hearing back from you after the diagnostic. Remember, we're here for you. If the issue persists, we all are going to think and solve this together. Good luck, can't wait to hear the update! Safe driving until then. Cheers!

Cheers! I genuinely appreciate the advice and the support. And absolutely, it's all about sticking together for us car enthusiasts. I must admit, the software aspect had slipped my mind, so thank you for bringing that to light! I'm booking a full diagnostic check with my local mechanic tomorrow - will defo highlight the software side of things to him. Let's hope this mystery gets solved soon. Will update you all as soon as I've any news to share. It's reassuring to have a group like this to turn to in times of car trouble. Thanks again, and safe driving to you too!
