Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting 2006 Lexus RX Gasoline Engine and Brake Issues

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey! I'm struggling with my 2006 Lexus RX with a Gasoline engine, seems to be acting out recently. Noticed a warning light popping up on the speedometer, got me thinking that it might be an issue with worn-out brakes. Any of you experienced a similar situation? Thoroughly appreciate any tips or advice on troubleshooting this, and do share your workshop repair experiences. Cheers!

Hey, looks like we've got the same taste in cars! I had a very similar issue with my 2014 Lexus NX, just a couple of years younger but very much sister models. For a bit of background - I'm not exactly a car whiz, but I've got a decent amount of experience messing around under the hood from time to time, patching things up here and there. When my Lexus started giving me headaches, I toddled off to my local workshop. Turns out, it was the DSC/ABS control unit getting faulty, not the brakes. A bit of a rare case, if you ask me. Cost me a steep 1000 Euro to get fixed but it's been smooth sailing ever since. By the way, can you provide more details about your car's condition, current mileage, any other symbols or lights popping up? That would help me suggest better what you might be dealing with. Hoping this helps!

Hey, appreciate your quick response! Well, there are no other strange lights, just the one. Mileage is sitting at 22157 KM. The car was serviced last year. Based on your experience, I'll consider getting the control unit checked. Thanks for the advice!

Hey again! Good to hear back from you so soon. So with your kind of mileage, assuming the car has been well-maintained, it seems unlikely that your brakes are worn-out. I'd definitely recommend getting the control unit looked at like you mentioned, especially since there aren't any other warning lights popping up which could hint at different issues. If not the ABS/DSC unit like in my case, it could also be related to low brake fluid level due to leakage or the brake pads wearing down to the minimum - that was the issue my cousin had on his older Lexus RX before, with similar symptoms. Whatever it is, be sure to get your car checked professionally as soon as possible - braking issues aren't something to take lightly, for sure. Hope it all turns out smooth just like mine did! Cheers.

That's a solid piece of advice! I'm taking her to the garage tomorrow for a full check-up and will mention the control unit, brake fluid, and pads. Can't risk it with braking issues. Thanks for relating your experience; it has been really helpful. Fingers crossed my Lexus gets well soon! Cheers.
