Seeking Advice on Troubles with 2017 Hyundai ix20: Engine Issues, Power Loss, and Start-up Problems

Car won't start

Shaking while idling

|

Poor fuel economy

|

Jerking on acceleration

|

Engine shuts off by itself

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Hey! I've been wrestling with some weird behaviours from my 2017 Hyundai ix20 with a Diesel engine. Noticed a drop in power, the check engine light's on, and to add to the weirdness, the engine cuts out by itself. When I try to accelerate it judders, and some days it just won't start! I've also been feeling more bumps at the pump recently, and my car's shaking during idles. I have a hunch that it might be something to do with needing a reset on the quantity drift compensation, but I'm no expert. Anyone else had any similar troubles and got it fixed at a workshop? How'd you navigate through it? Would appreciate any tips or shared experiences! Cheers.

Hey! Your note gave me flashbacks to my own battles with my 2015 Hyundai i30 with a Diesel engine, almost exactly like yours. Now, I'm far from being an expert mechanic. I land somewhere in the "some experience" card when it comes to car troubles. When it was my car giving me similar fits, I ended up hauling it off to my local garage. After a lot of diagnostics and testing, my mechanic identified that the Injector was defective. So, I decided to have it replaced and that set me back 515€. Not the best news for my wallet, but my ride's been super smooth ever since, no more shaking, no more drop in power. Sounds like your car is showing similar symptoms. Before I can dig into more specific advice, how about sharing more details? Have you noticed anything odd about the sounds, smells, or alerts? It could help identify your trouble. Good luck!

Appreciate your input! Glad to know I'm not alone in this. Haven't noticed any peculiar smells or sounds, except for the annoying check engine light alert bugging me since the issue started. Oh, and my ix20 has run 32603 KM since the last service. Wonder if my guess about the quantity drift compensation reset makes any sense. Will mark this down for the mechanic to check the injectors. This Hyundai is really testing my patience and pockets, ha! Thanks again.

Hey, no worries, happy to help! Trust me, I know how annoying and wallet-draining these issues could be, been there. About your question on the quantity drift compensation needing a reset, it could possibly be the cause. This usually compensates for the wear and tear of injectors over time. But given your symptoms, I can't help but go back to my previous struggle i.e., this might be a mechanical issue rather than an electronic one. Just like my Hyundai i30, your ix20 has probably seen some miles and clocked up substantial wear on the injectors, especially if they haven't been serviced or replaced yet. Your trouble screams 'injectors', as they tick off nearly all the symptoms you're facing, and they were the culprits in my case. In the end, trust your mechanic's diagnosis. They'll probably conduct a fuel pressure test, amongst others, to pin down if the injectors really are at fault. Keep your fingers crossed it's not something more expensive! Good luck, and let us know how it goes. Cheers!

Great stuff! Sounds like you know your way around this issue. I guess I was a bit lost on the exact cause, but you've convinced me to consider this as an injector issue. I'll be sure to discuss this with my mechanic. Praying it's not gonna blow a hole in my pocket, ha! I'll give an update once things get sorted. Much appreciated, cheers!
