Seeking Advice on Suspected Swirl Flap Control Error in a 2022 Kia Mohave, Diesel Engine

Loss of engine power

Loud hissing on acceleration

Shaking while idling

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Hey! I've got a bit of a pickle with my 2022 Kia Mohave, Diesel engine, just shy of 200k kms on it. Lately, that pesky check engine light's been on, and I've noticed my engine acting all kinds of funky - shaky at idle, unsteady power, and a jerk when I stomp on it. The tell-tale sign? A loud hiss when I give 'er some gas. Had a bad run-in with a local mechanic recently, puts me on edge. So, I'm thinking it could be a Swirl flap control error on the intake manifold - seen anything like that, anyone? How'd that get handled at the mechanics'?

Hey! Not entirely dissimilar situation with my own 2019 Kia Sorento a while back. The good ol' 'check engine' light was my weekend highlight, combined with a less than smooth ride and power feeling a bit iffy. I could relate to your 'shake, rattle and roll' symptoms in no time! Topped with a discernible hissing sound when revving, it had the traits of a control error with the intake manifold's swirl flap. Took my beast to the trusted garage, and yep, they confirmed it - switch intake manifold control was indeed defective. They basically had to replace the entire manifold - yeah, not just the control or the swirl flaps. Turns out, if one component in the manifold is off-mark, you're always better replacing the whole thing due to interdependencies. Was it serious? Well, it wasn't some catastrophic, end-of-the-world kind of issue, but it sure needed immediate attention. Left unchecked, it could have led to some more serious damage - think blowing a gasket or experiencing an engine misfire. Good luck with your Mohave. As a fellow Kia owner, I have your back! Don't let a few problems get you down - she's a toughie and should pull through in no time!

Hey! I appreciate the camaraderie! Your description hits the nail right on the head, it’s exactly what I'm experiencing with my Mohave right now. Seems like the trusty Kia's have a bit of a pattern here, huh? Thankfully, it's nothing too catastrophic then if it's similar to what you faced with your Sorento. Sure is a bit of a downer though having to replace the entire manifold but makes sense to avoid any further damage. Just one thing - mind jogging back to that time and tell me how much the garage made you fork out for that full replacement? And, out of curiosity, did you observe any other related issues creep up afterwards, or was it smooth sailing (or should I say driving) from there? Cheers for backing me up on this!

Hey again, Bloody glad to help a fellow Kia enthusiast out! Spot on - our Kias do seem to have a thing for surprising us like this, don't they? I had to scratch my head a bit to recall the cost. The mechanics hit me up for 465.00 € for the whole switch intake manifold control malarkey. It was a bit dear but remember, it's a comprehensive fix - you're getting the whole manifold replaced. The good news? The ride's smooooth since the fix, and knock on wood, there have been no more surprises from the 'check engine' light or unexpected hisses. No other related issues have shown up - just me, my Sorento, and the open road. All well worth the moolah spent, if you ask me! Hope it all works out with your Mohave, and you're back on the road in no time. Stand strong, she'll pull through!

G'day That puts my head at ease, hearing it straight from a fellow Kia driver. Nearly 500 € is a bit of a sting, but I get it, want my Mohave running smooth with no problems. A comprehensive repair trumps half measures. It's comforting to know it's all been good for your Sorento since the fix. No more hissing Nagini and rogue 'check engine' lights, eh? The open road and a well-wrought ride sure sound well worth every penny. Booking an appointment with my trusted mechanic tomorrow, fingers crossed, soon I’ll be vrooming smoothly on the motorway again. Thanks heaps for the timely advice. Really helped me snap out of my fretting. Kia family rocks, right? Until the next problem, then! Cheers!
