Thanks for the advice! My Cerato has around 47552 KM on it, and the last service was nothing major, simple oil change and filter replacements mainly. Hmm, a defective camshaft adjustment cable/plug? Thanks for the tip, I'll make sure I mention that to my mechanic. It's a relief to hear the fix is straightforward though, fingers crossed it won't dig a hole in my pocket! Cheers!
Heyo again! Ah, with that mileage and just basic maintenance so far, your Kia Cerato is still basically a youngster, haha! Yeah, in my case it was the camshaft adjustment cable/plug. Couldn't believe that little bugger could cause so much trouble! And while there's no guarantee that's what your issue is, it's definitely worth getting checked out. Also, do keep an eye out on the metal shavings situation. If you're still seeing those in the oil after the camshaft issue gets fixed, maybe give the oil pump and valves a once-over. Don't wanna scare ya, but metal shavings can sometimes spell bigger problems. But hey, just remember this - cars give us joy almost equivalent to the headaches they give, haha. Try not to worry too much, things should straighten out soon. Happy motoring and keep us posted, alright? Cheers!
Hey! That makes me feel a bit better, haha! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your story and advice with me. I'll keep the possibility of a faulty camshaft adjustment cable/plug in mind, and get everything checked out asap. Also will keep a close eye on that metal shaving situation. One can never be too careful, aye? Thanks for the heads-up though, I appreciate it. Your words sure ring true, our cars give us as much joy as they do headaches! Guess that's all a part of the game. Will keep you all updated on what turns up. Cheers!
Hey there! Your problem sounds a fair bit like what happened to my 2005 Kia Optima. I wouldn't say I'm the world's best car genius, but I've some experience messing around with motors and whatnot. I had nearly the same issue, same erratic behavior from the engine, lousy fuel economy, the works. Took it to my local workshop, great by the way. They diagnosed it pretty fast - turned out to be a misbehaving camshaft adjustment cable/plug - it was defective and soaked in oil. Easy job for 'em really, they replaced it and everything went back to normal like nothing ever happened! Cost me around 395€, which hurt my pocket a bit, but not as much as the headache this whole mess was giving me. What's the mileage on your car? Any recent work you've had done? This info might help me dig a bit deeper to assist ya further! Cheers.
