Oil light on

Hey! I've got a bit of an odd issue going on with my 2011 Kia Pro Ceed Gasoline engine. Lately, the oil light's been flipping on unusually, I'm hearing strange noises that sound like they could be stemming from sticky valves, and the engine almost sounds like it's coughing, if that makes any sense. Strangest of all, I've found metal fragments in the oil! I suspect there might be something off with my oil pressure system, but I'm not 100%. Has anyone experienced something similar? If so, how did you diagnose and resolve the issue? Appreciate any tips or shared experiences from the workshop!

Hey there! Your issue reminds me of a slightly similar problem I had with my 2009 Kia Optima. I'd classify myself as having some experience with cars but I'm certainly not a professional. During my issue, I noticed a unusual oil light and some pretty funky engine noises much like what you've described. After hightailing it to my local workshop, they diagnosed it as an oil pump defect. To correct it, it set me back about 755 Euro, which wasn't the best news, but definitely a relief to get the issue addressed. Though it's important to note, not every car issue can have the exact same fix. Can you give some more specifics like your current mileage, any recent work done on the car, and when you last changed the oil? That'd help in giving a more tailored response to your situation.

Hey there! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It helps me to put things into perspective. My Kia has been cruising for about 193535km now, so she's not exactly new anymore. I had the last service roughly three months back. I didn't make any significant changes since then except the usual maintenance, and the oil was changed during this service. Fingers crossed it's not an oil pump defect that'll cost me an arm, but I'll get it to a workshop as soon as possible to see what they think!

Hey, no problem, glad I could share my experience. With the mileage you've got on your Kia, there are unfortunately a bunch of things this could be. First and foremost, I still stick by my original inkling that it might be an issue with the oil pump, given the symptoms you're experiencing. An accumulation of metal fragments in your oil is sadly never a good sign. It could simply be due to normal wear and tear, but it can often indicate a more serious internal issue. Could be an oil feed problem to be quite frank, and it might even be your bearings starting to fail. Ouch! And that 'coughing' noise… could be a pretty loud warning for a significant engine failure. Though, unusual oil light and weird engine noises could be a multitude of things, hence running a diagnostic would be imperative at this stage. Your Kia has done a fair bit of distance, and trust me, it's always cheaper to deal with smaller issues before they turn into bigger ones. So, go get that baby checked! It sounds like you care about your ride, and it's better to be safe than sorry. And hey, even if it hits your pocket a bit, peace of mind is priceless. But hey, keep your fingers crossed, it could be just a minor fix, you never know!

Hey, you're absolutely right! I think you've got a compelling point there about going for a diagnostic. Your insights are indeed invaluable, and this knowledge is motivating me to not delay the issues any longer. Even though it could potentially cost me a bit, the peace of mind and the longevity of the car are worth every penny. I feel much more equipped moving forward now. I really care for my old girl and want her to stay on the road as long as possible! I'm gonna get her looked at straight away. Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious! Thanks again! Will keep you updated on the developments.
