Seeking Advice on Solving Engine Problems in a 2019 Dacia Sandero Running on Gas

Poor fuel economy

Weird engine noise

Valve adjustment noise

Unsteady engine

Metal shavings in oil

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Hey fellow car lovers, I'm having some trouble with my 2019 Dacia Sandero running on gas. The check engine light is constantly lit, and I'm feeling a major drop in power. The engine is super unsteady, jerks during acceleration, and I've been watching my fuel economy nosedive recently. There're some weird noises coming from the valve, like it needs adjusting, along with some unsettling sounds from the engine side. Plus, I've spotted metal bits mixed in the oil. I suspect the camshaft adjustment might be off, but would love some insights. Has anyone faced similar issues? How did you handle them in the garage, what was the fix? I'd appreciate any advice. Cheers!

Hi! First off, I'm no mechanic by any means but I do have some experience with cars. I faced a similar issue on my 2017 Dacia Logan, quite alike to your Sandero. The check engine light was on, the power was down and it felt like the car was stuttering. I decided to take it to my trusted local workshop and the diagnosis was a defective neck shaft solenoid valve. It seemed there was also a lack of power supply which evidently caused the severe lack of performance and the odd sounds from the engine you're describing. I handed over 250 Euro to get it fixed. They kind of had a detailed approach here, started with fixing the solenoid valve and ensured to check on the power supply. The engine returned to its formal self, no more lit engine lights or power losses, and the noises disappeared. This could be the same issue on your Sandero. However, it would be better if you can provide more specifics about your car such as mileage, engine type etc. It would make it easier to pinpoint the problem a bit more precisely. You should definitely take your car to a professional, though. I hope this helps a bit! Cheers!

Hey there, Thanks for your insights! Well, my 2019 Sandero is a petrol engine model and it's clocked around 61,406 KM till now. The last service was around 6 months ago, but with the lockdown and all, it's hard to schedule a new appointment. I'd love to get more information and other potentialities before going into the garage. Your help's been enlightening though --- hadn't considered the possibilities related to the power supply. I'll definitely mention this to the mechanic when I take it in. Thanks a ton! Best,

Hey again, Glad to have been of help! Based on your car details, it's still pretty new and not as high-mileage to have such critical issues. However, these symptoms are unquestionably concerning, and the fact that you've noticed metal bits in oil raises a big red flag. The bits possibly could come from various engine parts due to wear and tear, or, they can be coming from the camshaft, as you first suspected. Nevertheless, identifying the precise source of these shavings requires a mechanic's immediate attention. But, before you take it to the garage, you can also try checking the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP), as it gets ignored during regular service. It's very crucial for your engine's performance – often a faulty CMP, or dust collected on it, can lead to all those issues you're facing (engine light on, drop in power, jerks during acceleration, poor fuel economy, etc.). For the power supply matter and other specifics, I highly recommend getting a proper computer diagnostic test at the workshop, it will provide plenty of useful information for your mechanic. Kindly keep me updated on what you find out. Hope this helps a bit more! Good luck and cheers!

Hey! Your advice hits the nail on the head! I hadn't given the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) a thought, but it makes sense given the problems I'm experiencing. It's baffling that such a critical part can get overlooked during service. And, of course, the metal bits in the oil are a pressing concern. My plan is to book an appointment with my local garage for a thorough check, with your suggestions noted down. I'll keep an eye out for the computer diagnostic test too. I really appreciate your advice! So, sit tight and I'll definitely keep you in the loop. Thanks again! Cheers!
