Seeking Advice on Solving Battery and Light Issues in 2016 Volvo V90 Diesel

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey folks, I'm dealing with a weird issue on my 2016 Volvo V90 Diesel. Recently, I've noticed the lights are either dimming or flickering, plus the battery seems weak on start-up. I'm suspecting it's something to do with the vehicle battery temperature sensor malfunctioning. Anyone experienced something similar and fixed it? Could really use help understanding how your workshop diagnosed and resolved this. Would love to hear about your experiences. Thanks!

Hey there, I had a similar thing with my 2014 Volvo S90. I got quite a bit of car knowledge, so tinkered around a bit before realizing it could be the battery temperature sensor indeed. Took my ride to a reliable local workshop, shared my suspicion, and they run a diagnostic test on it. Turns out I was spot on - the sensor was whipped. Cost me a bit of a dent, about €315to have a new one installed. Could you share more about how your car's been behaving recently, any unusual sounds, weird dashboard notifications, or something? That might help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same villain here. Hang in there!

Hey, Appreciate your speedy response and sharing your experience. As for my V90, well, can't say it's been making odd sounds or displaying weird notification lights. Just the headlights being moody at times and occasionally the start-up feels a bit sluggish which is very unlike how she behaved till we clocked 38636 KM. Had the last service timely as well. Quite certain it might be the sensor trouble, considering your experience. So, yea, planning on catching up with my mechanic soon. Will keep you posted. Thanks again!

Hi there, Sounds like we're definitely in the same boat. I remember my S90 acting a bit sludgy too right before the sensor went bust. And no odd sounds or notifications is a good sign, means no other gremlins lurking around. Makes it easier to pinpoint the issue. As you're already planning to see your mechanic soon, make sure they run a thorough diagnostic just to rule out anything else. One key thing to remember here is to educate yourself as much as you can about your car. You never know when this stuff comes in handy, just like it did in my case. Looking forward to hearing back from you with good news! Hang tight, you'll sort this out! Cheers!
