Loss of engine power

Hey folks! I've been facing some issues with my 2018 Seat Tarraco, gasoline model, with 55765 km on the clock. It's been reluctant on acceleration, spitting out black smoke, and having problems while driving. My engine light is constantly on and the performance isn't up to par, eating more fuel than usual. It's been quite uneasy. I suspect this might be due to an aged Lambda sensor, based on some research. Can anyone share their experiences with similar problems? Also, interested to hear how your visit to the mechanic went if you faced something like this. My last visit wasn't really memorable 😅. Thanks in advance!

Hey, Just read your issue and it sure does sound familiar! I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2015 Seat Leon. Same deal - poor acceleration, erratic idling, increased fuel consumption and that persistent engine light. Turned out, it was indeed related to the lambda (O2) sensor, as you suspected. Upon inspecting, my technician found the ceramic element inside the lambda sensor was clogged, causing all the chaos. Essentially, this sensor is meant to check on the amount of oxygen present in your car exhaust, but when it gets soiled, the readings go haywire leading to poor performance and economy. So, I'd bet on the lambda sensor needing a check. It could be malfunctioning due to the ceramic element being dirty or maybe it’s just gotten old. In my case, cleaning didn't help much so a replacement was necessary. I wouldn't say this was a minor issue, given its role in engine management, but it wasn't an astronomical problem either. Got it done within a day and the ol' Leon was back running like new. Get your Tarraco checked out soon and good luck!

Hey there, Thanks for sharing that! Your messy situation with the Leon is kinda reassuring to me. Seems like I'm on the right track with suspecting the Lambda sensor. But how much did you shell out for that fix? What did it really set you back? And since the replacement, did you run into this issue again or did something else rear its head? Looking forward to your reply. Cheers!

Hey there, No worries, I'm glad my experience could give you some reassurances. In terms of costs, the fix for the dirty sensor set me back about 375€. They had to take care of the ceramic inside the Lambda sensor, which had clogged up over time. It was a bit of a hit, but definitely worth it once I experienced the improvement in my Leon's performance. Since the mechanic took care of the aged Lambda sensor, she's been running smoothly without any similar issues cropping up again. It seemed to be a one-time thing - fingers crossed it stays that way! Hope this helps! Good luck with your Tarraco.

Hello again, You've got the experience I needed! Thanks a ton for the insight. The price is a bit steep, but if it fixes the problem, I'll consider it money well-spent. I'll hurry off to a mechanic and see what they say about it. Wish me luck with the good ol' Tarraco, it's in dire need of some care now, it seems. Probably been through worse, aye? Cheers for sharing your experience and knowledge. Hope your Leon keeps runnin' smoothly! Have a good one!
