Seeking Advice on Resolving Frequent Start Struggles and Flickering Lights in 2011 Lexus LX with Gas Engine

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey! I've got a 2011 Lexus LX with a gas engine that's been acting up lately. It's struggling to start, the battery seems weak on ignition, the lights dim or flicker sometimes, and there's this annoying warning light on the speedometer that won't go away. I'm thinking it's got to do with some error message but I'm not certain. Has anyone faced a similar issue? What was your experience at the workshop fixing this? Super keen on any advice or suggestions you can share. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had pretty much the same issue on my 2013 Lexus RX a while back. By no means am I a car expert, but I've got a bit of experience under my belt from dealing with stuff like this. The problem turned out to be a defective cable connection of the control unit to the BUS system. I had to shell out about 260 Euro at my local workshop to get it resolved. They were professional, quick, and kept me updated on what they were doing, which I appreciated. Hope that helps! It would be great if you could share some more specifics about your vehicle. Like the mileage, last service date, any prior issues etc. The more info you provide, the better we'll be able to help you out. Cheers!

Hey! Thanks for your quick response. I can totally see why it might be a cable connection, sounds pretty similar to what I'm experiencing. Just to fill you in more about my car, it's done a heavy stint of 157133 KM till now. I got it last serviced about a year back probably, and no big issues since then. It's always been pretty reliable but for this odd problem now. Hoping to hear some more feedback. Thanks again for the support! Cheers!

No worries, happy to help out! Given the mileage on your LX and the symptoms you're describing, it could very well be the result of normal wear and tear on the vehicle's electrical system. With over 150,000 KM, connections can start to fail or get corroded. Based on what you're experiencing, I'd strongly consider getting the alternator tested - if the lights are dimming or flickering, it might not be generating enough power to keep everything running. Additionally, I'd take a look at the battery and cables themselves, just as you mentioned. And don't forget that warning light! If it's throwing an error code, getting that read could give a direct indication of what’s going wrong. Ultimately though, my advice is to take it into a professional. Don't try to tackle it all on your own unless you're confident in your ability. Keep us updated and let's see if anyone else on here chimes in with their experiences. Best of luck!

Thanks a ton for your detailed advice! Totally see the sense in what you're suggesting – especially getting that warning light figured out. I'm going to arrange for a trip to a local professional shortly – don't wanna risk playing around with something I'm not too confident about. I'll be sure to update how this troubleshooting journey goes. Look forward to seeing if anyone else has some input too. Thanks again for your help really appreciate it. Cheers!
