Seeking Advice on Resolving Engine Control Fault and Other Issues in 2016 Lexus NX Hybrid

Loss of engine power

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Car won't start

Fault stored

Unsteady engine

Check engine light on

Engine shuts off by itself

Hey! I'm having a bit of a pickle with my 2016 Lexus NX Hybrid. Lately, it's been acting up with some odd symptoms like the check engine light coming on, engine shutting off unexpectedly and drop in power while driving. We've also got a shaky engine and difficulties when trying to start the car. An engine control fault keeps appearing on the dash too. Anyone ever dealt with similar issues and could share how you or your mechanic resolved it? Need some advice to narrow down the issue before hauling it down to the workshop. Appreciate any tips or experiences you all can share!

Hey! I've got a 2014 Lexus RX Hybrid, pretty similar to your NX. Now, I’m no expert, but I've got some experience with cars kicking the bucket in the most annoying ways. Not too long ago, experienced similar issues with mine. Turned out the problem was a funky component in the engine. Had this irritating light blinking, shaky movements, and it acted like it wanted to take a nap while I was driving! Took it to my local workshop where they hooked it up to a diagnostic machine and confirmed my worst fears. "Affected component defective" was the verdict. Ended up parting ways with 625 Euro to get it fixed. Yikes right? Anyway, if it's the same problem with your NX, keep in mind it can be a bit pricey. But, hey, better safe than sorry. Outta curiosity though, are there any other symptoms you've noticed with your car? Maybe we can narrow it down before you take the hit on the paycheck.

Hey, thanks for the insight! Actually, apart from what I've mentioned already, I think my NX has also been having an increasingly rough idle, kinda like it's struggling and gasping. Been noticing some unusual noises too. This all started happening after the 138006 km mark. Any chance it could be related to the same funky component in yours? Also, ouch, your repair price stings a little, not gonna lie. But, well, got to keep the wheels turning, am I right? Any idea what that component was called or if I could possibly check it myself before heading for professional help? Appreciate the assistance!

Hey again! Rough idle and unusual noises definitely add another layer to the problem. I remember mine had a weird grumbling noise, like it’d swallowed some rocks or something. Plus, the idling also gave an impression of a heavy smoker in withdrawal. From what you're telling me, it does seem likely that you're facing a similar situation to mine. The obnoxious little part that I had to replace was the throttle body. It's a key component of the engine that controls the amount of air going in. If it's acting up, it can throw the whole engine out of whack, just like what we've been experiencing. Sure, you could try having a look, but it's not the easiest part to check on unless you can get under the hood and know exactly what you're looking for. Honestly, I'd recommend getting a professional opinion, especially if you're not too comfortable with tinkering around. Bummer about the repair cost, I know. But think about it this way, a healthy car is a happy wallet in the long run! Let me know how it goes for you. Good luck!

Hey! Goodness, grumbles and heavy smoker withdrawal symptoms don't sound too far off! Your description really hits the nail on the head, ha! Seems like this throttle body culprit could very well be behind my woes. Well, I'm no auto whiz but I'm open to a bit of a challenge, so I might try to peek under the hood and see if I can spot anything obviously off-kilter before surrendering to the experts. Your input certainly gives me a bit direction, and I do agree, the long-term safety and function of the ride are paramount. Plus, having the ride in top form makes it worth the price, doesn't it? Huge thanks for taking the time to share your experience and advice! I'll drop an update once it's checked out. Fingers crossed it’s nothing too brutal. Cheers!
