Seeking Advice on Resolving 2017 Mazda 5 Key Fob and Antenna Issues

Key fob issues

Hey guys, I'm having some trouble with my 2017 Mazda 5 Gasoline. I've been facing some key fob issues, kinda making me think the antenna in the bumper might be shot. Have any of you experienced anything similar? I'm curious about your experiences with this and how you managed to get it sorted out by your mechanic. Any tips or insights would be super helpful!

Hey there, I totally get what you're going through. I had a similar problem with my 2015 Mazda 3 a while back. I mean, I'm not a car guru exactly, but I know a thing or two about cars, enough to keep myself out of trouble most times. So, when my key fob began acting up, I went straight to my trusted mechanic. Turned out, the cable connection to the bumper antenna was fried. He charged me around 260 Euro to fix it, and ever since it's been smooth sailing. Could you give more details about your problem? Your specific model and the symptoms? That'll help me give you a more accurate advice.

Hi again, Yeah, seems like the symptoms are quite similar. My 2017 Mazda 5 gas has been acting up lately. Sometimes it unlocks after the first click, sometimes I need to mash that unlock button like crazy. Plus, often the trunk release is not functioning as well. My Mazda has covered quite the distance, clocked about 295814 km now. Last service was in January, but the issue cropped up recently. I'm hoping it's as simple as changing the cable connection like in your case. This gives me a clearer direction to discuss with my mechanic. Thanks for the help and the quick response!

Hey there, Really glad to hear my first response was somewhat helpful! From what you've described, it does seem like the issues are kinda similar to what I faced with my 2015 Mazda 3. Hmm, unusual unlocking and the trunk release issue could totally point towards a faulty antenna connection. Given the mileage, your Mazda has certainly been through quite a bit, hasn't it? These issues can pop up from time to time with wear and tear. Definitely sounds like you've taken good care of your vehicle with regular servicing. But, like we both know, vehicles have minds of their own sometimes. Don't worry too much, I'd suggest talking it over with your mechanic just like you're planning to. In my case, once the faulty cable connection to the antenna was replaced, my car was back to its old self in no time. Hoping the same for yours! By the way, remember to watch out for the costs. My mechanic charged me about 260 Euro for the fix which seemed fair; it was a job well done. But it's always good to ensure you're getting your money's worth. Keep your fingers crossed and let me know how it goes, alright?

Hey! I appreciate you sharing your experience—it's really put my mind at ease. You’re right, got quite a bit of mileage over the years but the old girl's been treated well. I'll definitely approach my mechanic with this info. It has made things clearer for me. And you're right, keeping an eye on costs is crucial too. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Here's hoping it's simple and won't cost an arm and a leg! Thanks again for the advice!
