Park distance control without function

Hey! I'm having a strange issue with my 2000 Kia Retona with a gas engine. Recently, its park distance control stopped working, and I'm facing some electrical issues too. The car's even started storing faults and showing a warning light on the speedometer. I'm suspecting these problems could be due to the parking aid not working properly. Has anyone else experienced this with their Retona? How did you fix this at your local garage and what was your overall experience? Would appreciate any tips or advice to get back on track! Thanks in advance.

Hey there! It sounds like you're dealing with some frustrating stuff. Coincidentally, I've wrestled with a similar situation on my 1998 Kia Sportage, quite a beast but not too different from your Retona. I ought to point out, though - I'm not a car guru. My experience is mostly just some hands-on stuff - you know, the kind of driver who can change a tire but still gets his heart racing every time check-engine light comes on. Anyways, like you, my Sportage started developing some funky electrical issues. It turned out that the problem was a defective cable connection, quite a sneaky one. It was messing up the park distance control and triggering faults. Took it to my trusty local workshop to track down the exact issue - those guys are aces when it comes to these quirks. They pinpointed the faulty connection, swapped it out for a new one, and that was it. Let's just say it wasn't free - cost me around €170. Now every vehicle is a bit different, even within the same brand. Could you share more about the specific symptoms, and when they started? It could help me (and others) share more specific tips and tricks. Cheers!

Hey! I appreciate the advice! The symptoms started showing up after I clocked in about 30987 KM on my Retona. No latest service so far. As for specifics, the warning light keeps popping up out of nowhere and the park distance control gives me issues during reversing mostly. I considered the faulty cabling too and your experience sort of confirms it for me. I just didn’t want to jump the gun without discussing it here. I'll be taking my car to a local garage I trust and get them to look into the issue. The estimated cost you mentioned doesn't seem too intimidating, as long as it gets my chariot back in shape. Thanks Aussie! Will update here once its resolved.

Hey, you are most welcome! Your elaboration definitely makes it sound like a faulty cable connection issue similar to what I had. Remember, these sort of electrical glitches can seem erratic at first, but they usually have a definite cause. Your plan to have it checked by a trusted local mechanic is a good one - they can do a thorough inspection and pin down exactly what’s going on. It's really worth the money to get these things taken care of before they lead to bigger problems or safety issues. Just one small tip- when you get it in, ask your garage if they provide a warranty for the repair, it can really help if something goes wrong. And keep all the receipts and documentation of the repair in case you need it later for a warranty claim. You know, just to be on the safe side! Looking forward to hearing how things turn out for you. Best of luck with your troubleshooting - here's to hoping your Retona is back in top shape soon! Cheers!

You're an absolute gem! Your experiences and suggestions are really helpful. Thanks especially for that tip about asking for a warranty, it had honestly slipped my mind but it's definitely something I'll ask for. No one wants unnecessary headaches in the future, right? It feels good to have an idea of what could be wrong and feeling prepared before going into a mechanic. Once I have the Retona checked out and the issue resolved, I'll give everyone an update and maybe my experiences could be helpful to someone else in the future. Again, thanks for your help! Cheers and safe drives!
