Seeking Advice on Renault Arkana Hybrid's Gear Shifting Issues and Possible Transmission Control Unit Fault

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hey folks! I'm having some tricky issues with my 2022 Renault Arkana Hybrid with about 70k on the clock. Recently it's been shifting really dodgy and there's this awful grinding noise when I change gears. My gut's telling me it might be the Transmission Control Unit acting up, but it's just a hunch. Any of you had similar troubles? I had a less than stellar time with my last mechanic so looking for some sort of heads up before I head back down that road. Chime in with your experience or advice, it'd be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Hey there! I've got a 2019 Renault Megane, not too different from your Arkana. I had a similar issue a while back, same gear grinding nightmare you're describing. Indeed, it turned out to be the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) playing up on me. When I took it to the mechanic, they confirmed that it was the TCU at fault. Believe me, it's not something to shrug off. That little unit controls a lot of transmission operations including gear shifting, so if it goes wrong, it can mess up your whole ride. They had to open up the transmission, replace the control unit and reprogram it. It’s definitely something that needs to be done by the pros - it was completely beyond my DIY capabilities. So my advice: do take it in ASAP before this deteriorates any further. It's some serious issue and you don't want to mess with the transmission - it's practically your car's backbone. Don't freak out though, once fixed, the car should run just fine. All the best.

Hey there! Your experience sounds quite similar to mine. Good thing you got it sorted out. I reckon I might be dealing with the same TCU issue like you did. Just out of curiosity, do you recall how much you had to part with to have this fixed? And since having the TCU replaced, did you ever encounter any related issues or was it all smooth sailing? Cheers for your time TCU-warrior!

Hey! Good to hear from you. In terms of cost, I had to cough up about 1000€ for the repair. Not cheap, but way worth it considering the alternative. It included the whole treatment - yanking out the old TCU, putting the new one in and getting everything up and running. Now onto your second question, after getting the TCU fixed, I'm glad to say - not a single problem till now. No more grinding, no awkward gear shifts, just smooth cruising. It really feels like a new car. Thankfully, the TCU pain is now a faded memory. I'd definitely recommend taking your Arkana to the pro's ASAP and get it fixed up before it gives you more trouble. Cheers! Take care of your ride.

Wow, 1000€ seems like a weighty hit to the wallet, but I gotta agree with you, no price too high for the old Arkana's well-being! I'm relieved to hear that the problem disappeared post-repair for you. I'm optimistically picturing the same future for my car. No more grinding and smooth sailing - that's like music to my ears. Looks like it's time for my beloved Arkana and I to take a little trip to the garage. Really appreciate your insights and advice. Cheers for sharing your TCU wars with me. Wish me luck dealing with mine!
