Seeking Advice on Possible Faulty Boost Pressure Sensor in 05' Volvo V60 Diesel due to Various Performance Issues

Loss of engine power

Poor fuel economy

Jerking on acceleration

Loud hissing on acceleration

Whistling noise

Strong exhaust smell

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Hey folks, I'm wrestling with an odd issue on my 05' Volvo V60 Diesel. I've spotted a bunch of problems like black smoke puffing out on acceleration, the check engine light staying on, significant power loss, car jerking when speeding up, loud hissing sounds, miserable fuel economy, a powerful exhaust odor, and a weird whistling noise. I've got this hunch about a possible faulty boost pressure sensor, but wanted to hear from you guys. Has anyone faced something similar and had it fixed at a service center? I'm keen to hear about your experiences and any tips you might have. Cheers!

Hey! I reckon I've had a similar issue with my own 03' Volvo V70 Diesel. Not an expert here, more of a guy with some hands-on experience, you know? Anyways, had the same blooming problems – stuttering like a choo-choo train and belching black fumes. Took it down to my local workshop. Turns out my Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) was clogged, not my boost pressure sensor. The blokes at the workshop cleaned it out and performed an active regeneration, it cost me a good chunk - 1325 Euro. Car's been running like a dream since then. However, without more info about your specific car, it's pretty hard to be certain that's your issue too. What sort of miles are on your V60? Has the DPF been replaced or cleaned out before? How often do you do long runs? These details could help me assist you more. Let me know!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! My V60's clocked 117536 KM so far. As per your query, my last service involved a routine check-up and oil change but didn’t exactly touch on a DPF cleanup. Usually, the car sees some pretty long runs - almost daily, I might add. Didn't know these could have such impacts. Interesting stuff! Thanks again!

Hey there! Given the info you've shared, I'd definitely check out the DPF first on your Volvo V60, rather than the boost pressure sensor. The symptoms you've mentioned sound uncannily similar to the ones I was dealing with. High mileage and frequent long runs could contribute to a clogged DPF. I'd suggest having it inspected by a professional. If it's indeed the issue, a good clean-up or a possible replacement, although pricey, might just resolve the problem and give your ride a fresh breath of life. Remember though, I'm not a professional mechanic - just a car enthusiast who's faced a similar issue. But always trust your mechanic's advice before anyone else's. Good luck with your V60 and keep us posted, Cheers!

Thanks a lot, bud! I guess I'll take it down to the local garage then. Let's see what my mechanic can dig up. If it is indeed the DPF, well, I'll bite the bullet. As long as my V60 returns to its usual performance, guess I wouldn't mind the expense that much. Once I've got some clarity, I'll circle back with updates. Your experience and advice really guided me well. Thanks again. Cheers!
