Seeking Advice on Possible Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Issue in 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Check engine light on

|

Overheating

Hey! I've got a 2007 Hyundai Tiburon with a Gas engine that's acting up lately. It's been overheating and the check engine light is on. I'm thinking it might be a problem with the engine coolant bypass valve, but I'd appreciate your expertise on this. Has anyone else had a similar issue, and if so, how did your repair shop handle it? Would love any tips or advice, thanks!

Hey there! So I've dealt with something similar but I've only got some experience with cars. I had a 2005 Hyundai Sonata, same brand just a different model, and similar year to yours. Faced the same heating issue and the engine light flickering. Turned out to be the coolant bypass valve cable connection that was defective. Paid a visit to my local mechanic and he sorted it out for me. Ended up costing me around 155 Euro, which wasn't too bad. Could you share some more info about your car? Maybe I could help you give more precise advice. It would be particularly useful to know if you've tried anything so far, or if there are any specific warning signs?

Hey! Thanks for the quick response. I haven't tried any major fixes yet, I was hoping to get some advice first. But yeah, I've noticed it heats up mostly on longer drives. My Tiburon has about 61941 km on it and it was last serviced about a month ago. No problems were found at that time, which is a bit baffling. But I'll definitely check on that coolant bypass valve connection. Cheers for the heads up!

Hey, glad to help out! From your additional info, it seems your issue is quite similar to what I dealt with on my Sonata. Same heating issue and very similar mileage too. It's funny how these things can sneak up after a service, huh? Just watch out for any coolant leaks or strange thermostat behavior because those are pretty good indicators you might be dealing with a troublesome bypass valve. It's always safer to have a professional look at it, of course. Mechanics sometimes have special equipment to diagnose these types of issues accurately. You might be in for about the same repair cost as me. Might vary a bit depending on labor costs in your area though. Hang in there hopefully your Tiburon gets back on track soon!

Solid advice! Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll keep an eye out for coolant leaks and odd thermostat behaviours for sure. You're right, better to get a pro to work it out. Don't want to risk screwing up my Tiburon myself. And fingers crossed that the repair costs don't run higher in my area. Anyway, thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. It's been a huge help!
