Seeking Advice on Persistent Engine Issues with 2010 Nissan Juke

Car won't start

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Longer cold start time

Engine shuts off by itself

Check engine light on

Hey everyone, Just a quick one here for all you car gurus. I've got a 2010 Nissan Juke with about 100k km on it, running on petrol. Been having a bit of a nightmare with this thing - check engine light constantly flashing and she keeps turning off on her own. Cold starts take longer than normal, acceleration is jerky, and overall power seems to have dwindled. Worst days, it refuses to start at all. I had an awful experience with my last mechanic, so not too eager to go down that road again. I'm suspecting a dodgy fuel pump but I'm no expert. Anyone had similar sort of issues? What was the outcome and your experiences with the mechanic? Any input would be appreciated. Cheers!

Hey there, Oh boy, sounds like a bumpy road you're on right now. Just a few moons ago, I was riding a similar wave with my 2007 Nissan Qashqai. The symptoms you're mentioning ring a bell; engine light flashing, weird interruptions, and sluggish acceleration. As you suggested, it wound up being a software glitch over the fuel pump. Turned out, the software values that control the fuel pump were all muddled up. Even though the fuel pump was physically good to go, the incorrect software values were causing all the chaos. At first, it sounded like a serious issue to me, but my mechanic ensured it's more about "annoying" rather than "serious". So, it seems we're more like victims of tech glitches than actual mechanical failures. But don't lose hope, because the bright side of my story is the fix. The mechanic had to update my car's ECU to get everything running smoothly again. It wasn't a lengthy process and saved the day without ripping apart my ride. So, it isn't necessarily a death sentence for your Juke. If you can find someone who knows a thing or two about software, you might escape the mechanic roulette this time. Good luck!

Hey there, That rings a bell, just seemed like my Juke has the same condition as your Qashqai after a wild night out! Your glitchy software story gives me a glimmer of hope, though. At least it's not as grisly as ripping the engine apart. Now, you've got me curious about how much it dug into your wallet. Remember the ballpark figure for that ECU update? Also, has anything else come up since then, or it's been smooth sailing? Looking forward to your reply and thanks for the hope! Cheers!

Hey, Haha, I can tell you, waking up with a glitchy Nissan is definitely as rough as after a night on the tiles! But onto the juicy stuff - the cost. For the ECU update to sort the fuel pump software issue, it set me back about 45 quid. Pretty reasonable considering I didn't have to mortgage the house or anything like that, you know? And I can happily report that since paying my mechanic a visit, the fuel pump has been behaving. No more dodgy software tricks or junky rides. It's been smooth sailing, for sure. Hope it is for your Juke too when it gets sorted! Cheers!

Hey there, That's fantastic news! A measly 45 quid to fix an issue as irksome as mine sounds like a steal. Compared to the scenarios I had running through my head, an ECU update seems a lot less gruesome. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. You've given me some much-needed light at the end of my wacky Nissan tunnel. Here's hoping the fix works out just as well for my Juke and we get back to smooth sailing! Thanks again and cheers!
