Hey, thank you for your input. This whole situation has been bugging me for weeks, so any bit of advice helps. Just to clarify, my Sonata had its last service when the mileage was at 66736 KM. The workshop didn't mention any faulty glow plug at the time but I feel a revisit is necessary. Probably should invest in an OBD reader too for any future mishaps. Thanks again for your input, really helped me to have a bit of peace of mind!
Hey, no problem at all! Glad to be of help. Yeah, modern diesels are a bit more complicated, so an expert analysis from your workshop would be great. An OBD reader can definitely be helpful for sweat-free diagnostics haha! About your previous service, try checking whether they mentioned any ECM (Engine Control Module) modifications or software updates. It's kind of rare but a bad update might cause glow plug related issues too. And, don't forget to take a note on cold starts performance after the fix. Over time, if you still notice longer cold starts, you might want to have a look at the fuel injector- just in case. Good luck hope you get your Sonata running smooth soon!
Cheers for the detailed advice! I'll definitely check on the ECM updates and the fuel injector in future. Also, I'll be investing in that OBD reader for my own sanity, haha. Thanks again for all your help! Fingers crossed, hope to get my beloved Sonata back in its prime soon. Got a fair bit to discuss with my mechanic next visit for sure. Take care and safe driving!
Hey, just throwing in my two cents- I only have a bit of car experience. Had a very similar issue with my 2011 Hyundai Elantra. Just like your Sonata, the glow plug was defective due to wear. I took it to my local workshop and they were able to identify the issue almost immediately. I ended up having to pay around €560 to get it fixed! Bit of a pinch but it was definitely worth it. On the off chance, did you get any OBD codes read? Also, have you been regularly servicing your car? Just trying to get a bigger picture and see what else I can suggest for you. Best of luck!
