Seeking Advice on Overheating Issues and AC Problems in 2014 Lexus GX

Air conditioning blows warm air

Overheating

Hey! I've got a peculiar issue with my 2014 Lexus GX running on gasoline. It's showing some odd symptoms - My AC's pumping out warm air and the engine's suffering from overheating. I'm guessing it might be an issue with the electric fan. Has anyone else faced a similar issue and gotten it fixed? Any advice on troubleshooting this? All thoughts and experiences from workshop visits are welcome. I'd certainly appreciate some insights from the crowd. Cheers!

Hey there, it sounds like you're going through a bit of a tough time with your Lexus. I had a similar ordeal with my 2012 Lexus RX a while back. Now, I'm no car expert, but I can do some basic stuff. Took my RX to my local workshop, and they confirmed it was the electric fan “control unit/resistor” that was causing the problem. Getting it fixed cost me 480 Euro in total- yep- not cheap at all, huh! But, it did solve the overheating and AC issue. I'd definitely recommend having a pro look at it. By the way, could you perhaps share more specifics about your GX? That way, I could possibly offer more detailed advice, especially if there's any difference in the cooling system between our models. Hang in there!

Hey, thanks a ton for your kind words! My GX's done about 152832 KM on the ticker, and she's had her latest service not too long ago. It seems we shared the same boat, huh. Hate to hear it put such a dent in your wallet though; I'm bracing for a similar hit now. I'll have to take her in and ask about the "control unit/resistor" on the electric fan. Thanks again for your help! Keep you posted. Cheers!

Hey there again, happy to help! To tell you the truth, I was a bit shell-shocked at the cost too, but it was a relief to have the ol' Lexus running smoothly again. With your GX's mileage, and the regular service you mentioned, it seems like you're pretty up to date with maintenance. So before you walk into the traps of costly repairs, do a quick check of your fuses and relays connected to the fan - sometimes it can be as simple as that. If those are intact, then you could be onto something with the fan control unit/resistor theory. It would adjust the speed at which the fan rotates to control the temperature of the engine. The thing is, a faulty control unit/resistor could cause both overheating and A/C issues, as the compressor relies heavily on the engine's temperature. If it's too hot, it tends to shut down, and that's where your warm air issue might be coming from. But hey, I'm no expert. That's why it's always safer to let a pro figure things out, but it's good to have a basic understanding of what could possibly be wrong. Best of luck with the fix! Looking forward to hearing how it all turns out. Hang in there!

Can't thank you enough, really! The explanation about how the whole system works was quite enlightening. Never thought of checking the fuses and relays, typical - overlook the simplest things, right? It's definitely worth trying before shelling out a chunk of change. I must say, your wisdom's saving me from what could've been a very rushed, costly decision. Your empathy has been refreshing. I'll provide an update as soon as I've got anything new. Fingers crossed it's just a fuse issue, eh? Thanks again, and stay cool! Cheers!
