Hey, cheers for the quick response. The overheating of my Seltos happens all sporadically, more often in traffic though. I've also noticed the coolant level sure drops a helluva lot faster than usual. The last service was done at 146838 KM so I don't reckon it's due to halted maintenance in any way. Any other pointers you think might help? Much appreciated!
Hey, no worries, happy to help! If the overheating is happening more often in traffic and your coolant level is dropping noticeably, then it might indeed be your auxiliary coolant pump at fault. The coolant pump does its primary work when the car's at low speeds or idle to keep the engine temperature in check. In my Sportage, it was a different issue but when it comes to intermittent overheating, especially in traffic, the coolant pump is a frequent culprit. I'd suggest you get a diagnostic done on your pump. Maybe try another garage if you don't trust your last one fully or they couldn't find the issue. I learned the hard way to stick to certified workshops for such stuff - they're pirricy but they got the right tools and knowledge. If it is indeed the pump, it's gotta be replaced. I've read somewhere that car makers recommend replacement rather than an attempt to repair as it can fail again. Be prepared for a decent bill though - pumps aren't typically cheap. Also, make them check the thermostat function and coolant levels thoroughly, you don't want the new pump to go kaput too. Keep me posted on how it goes. And hey, remember there's no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to better understanding your car. Drive safe!
Hey! I appreciate the detailed guidance, means a lot! Based on what you said, I'll drop by a certified workshop this week and have them examine that coolant pump and thermostat. You're right, I definitely don't wanna risk another failure. Will keep you posted on how it goes. Fingers crossed it won't be too heavy on the pocket. Thanks again and safe driving to you as well!
Hey there, I've got a '17 Kia Sportage (also a petrol burner) and bumped into a similar issue not too long ago. I'd say I've got some experience with cars - wouldn't call myself a Jedi mechanic but I do know my way around the basics. In my case, it started much the same way, an overheating engine and that annoying check engine light. I took it to my local garage, they did the usual checks and found that the problem boiled down to a defective cable connection. Cost me around 170 Euro to get it fixed. Could be a similar case with your Seltos, but I'd need a bit more info on the symptoms you're experiencing. When does the overheating happen? When you're in traffic, at high speeds, or just out of nowhere? Also, any fluctuations in the coolant level? Drop that in here, and it might help me (and others) pinpoint your issue more accurately. Cheers!
