Seeking Advice on Overheating Issue and Check Engine Light in 2015 Kia Venga

Check engine light on

|

Overheating

Hey all, I'm having a bit of a strange situation with my 2015 Kia Venga (Gas engine). It's recently started to overheat and the check engine light has popped on. I suspect it could be something with the electric coolant pump but I'm not completely sure. Has anyone else had this occur and have any advice on troubleshooting? I'm especially keen to hear how you got it fixed if you took it to a workshop. Thanks in advance!

Hey! I had a similar sitch with my 2013 Kia Soul. I don't claim to be an expert, just a guy with some car tinkering experience. Turned out, the cable on the pump/control unit was defective. Took it to my local mechanic's garage, cost me a cool 95 Euro to fix. It may be wise to check your car's cables? Might save ya on further complications. By the way, what type of engine are you packing and what's your mileage? I may be able to provide additional insights. Stay safe!

Hey there, Ah, I hadn't even considered the cable on the pump. Handy insight, I appreciate it! My Venga has a gas engine. As for the mileage, she's hit 61725 KM, and the last service was a few months back. I'll definitely get those cables checked out, and maybe even revisit the garage where the last service was done. You know, just for peace of mind. I'll circle back if I hit anymore road bumps. Cheers for the advice! Stay safe as well.

No problemo, always happy to help a fellow motorhead. Seems your Venga's been well taken care of with that mileage. Speaking from my experience with my Kia Soul, if you had your service a few months back, they should've caught any red flags then, but hey, sometimes things just pop up outta nowhere, right? Also, considering the overheating and check engine light issue, besides a dodgy coolant pump, I'd also suggest checking your thermostat and coolant levels. It is as important as imported candy for a movie night, I'd say. A faulty thermostat or low coolant can also cause overheating and trigger that pesky check engine light. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it's a straightforward fix. If anything, just give a shout here. Safe driving!

Hey again, You're right, you think they would have caught anything major in the service, but you're right, these things do sneak up on you sometimes. I'll consider your advice and check the thermostat and coolant levels too. Seems I've got a bit of a project this weekend! Thanks for the movie night analogy, got a laugh out of that one. Will definitely holler if more mystery pops up. Till then, happy driving! Cheers!
