Seeking Advice on Overheating and Persistent Low Coolant Level Issues in a 2018 Nissan XTrail

Coolant level low

Overheating

Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a bind with my 2018 Nissan XTrail on gasoline. It's been overheating lately and the coolant level seems to be constantly low. I've been thinking it might have something to do with the radiator shutter not working as it should. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you get it sorted out at the workshop? Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Doesn't seem to be acting like its old self.

Hey there, I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2016 Nissan Rogue a while back. Not an expert, but know a few things about cars. Turned out my wiring harness to the sensor was defective, corroded and caused some overheat problems. Took it to my local workshop, got it fixed for about 155 Euro. Now she's running cool as a cucumber. Your issue might be different but are you noticing any warning signals or any unusual behavior? A bit more info about your vehicle could help me understand your situation better!

Hello! Thanks for the attention. Just clocked 43734 KM on this beauty. Been noticing the temperature gauge topping off more often, also getting this unusual hissing sound from the engine when I park. Lately, also this burning smell, not all the time, but it's there. It got me worried, you know? I did my last service a few months back, and things were smooth as silk then. It's just started acting funny recently. I'm planning to pop into my regular garage this week. Let's hope it's nothing major and it won't burn a hole in my pocket.

Hey again! Sounds like you're dealing with a little more than just a possible radiator shutter issue here. From what you've described - the hissing sound, the smell and temperature rise - it paints a picture of an overheating issue or a coolant leak/evaporation. They are hard to spot sometimes, might even be a small crack in the radiator or other parts of your cooling system. Getting it to the garage, as you planned, is definitely the right move. These things have a way of escalating if not checked in time. In my case, replacing the defective wiring harness did the trick. But as I said earlier, each case is unique and different things work for different cars. Just make sure you go through a complete diagnostic. Hopefully, it is something quick and relatively inexpensive to fix. Keep us posted on what you find. Good luck with it, and remember, no problem is too big to solve!

Hey, cheers for the insight! Sounds like I've got a bit more detective work on my hands than I thought. Kinda dreaded that, but better safe than sorry, right? I'll definitely insist on a thorough check when I take it in this coming week. Fingers crossed it doesn't turn out to be anything too major. Yeah, you're right, no problem too big to solve. Appreciate the advice, will definitely keep you folks updated. Wish me luck!
