Seeking Advice on Overheating and Low Coolant Levels in 2008 Fiat Strada

Coolant level low

Hey there fellow gearheads! I've been struggling with my 2008 Fiat Strada, Gasoline version and could really use your insights. The engine's check light is on, she is overheating, and the coolant levels are low. There's also a warning light showing on the speedo. I'm thinking it might be an issue with the additional water pump. Any similar experiences with this model or suggestions on this issue, particularly on diagnosing and solving it at the auto workshop? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey, had a similar issue with my 2006 Fiat Fiorino. I'd say I've got some experience under the hood, but by no means an expert. Took mine to my local garage because the bloody thing was overheating too, and that dreaded check light came on. Turned out the cable on the pump/control unit was defective. Wasn't cheap to fix.. 225 Euro down the drain, ouch! Sounds like this might be the same issue for your Strada. Could you confirm if you’ve seen any leaks, or interrupted coolant flow? More info might help us pinpoint the issue. Remember, diagnosing car issues is sometimes a hit or miss, just like throwing darts after a couple of pints. Give my advice a shot! My old Fiorino's been running smoother than ever since the fix. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for responding! I gave your suggestion a shot, did a once-over for the Strada, and I did spot a minor coolant leak near the water pump region. But I’m not entirely sure about an interrupted coolant flow. The car's been rumbling along fine at 59257 km and had its last service fairly recently, but these problems seem to have just sprung up. Reckon I should head over to my local mechanic to get it checked out for a potential cable issue, then? I'm hoping it's not a big hit to the wallet. Cheers for the advice!

Hey there, sounds like we're on the right track! Yup, a minor coolant leak surely suggests something's not quite right in the pump area. As per your query about the coolant flow, well unless you have x-ray vision, it's a bit harder to determine without deeper investigation. Given your mileage and the recent service, this problem is indeed unlucky! But hey, that's our beloved car world for you, eh? As much as I'm a fan of DIY, I dare say a visit to the mechanic is the right move here. The pros should be able to figure out if it's a cable fault or something else going on in there. Hate to say it, but brace yourself. It might be another 225 Euro adventure like my Fiorino episode, but in the end, you'll have peace of mind knowing your gal's not going to overheat on you while running. Cheers and hoping for the best for you and your Strada! Keep us updated.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess I don’t have much of a choice other than to take it the ol’ trusty pro. Fingers crossed it won’t cost me an arm and a leg, but as you said, peace of mind is what matters. I swear, these machines can give you a headache at times, but I love them all the same. I'll keep you posted about the Strada's condition. Thanks heaps for your advice and cheers for your kind words! I'll get her sorted soon.
