Seeking Advice on Overheating and Check Engine Light Issues in 2016 Fiat Tipo

Check engine light on

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a pesky issue on my 2016 Fiat Tipo with a Gasoline engine. Of late, it's been constantly overheating and triggering the check engine light. I suspect it's a problem with the electric coolant pump but could use some guidance to confirm. Has anyone here experienced something similar with their Fiat or any other car for that matter? Any tips on troubleshooting this? Plus, I'd really like to hear your experiences at the workshop if you had to get it fixed there. Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers!

Hey there, Sounds like a similar issue I had with my 2014 Fiat Bravo. I'd classify myself as having some experience when it comes to cars, so I tried doing a bit of troubleshooting myself but no dice. Finally, I took it to my local workshop. Turned out that the cable on the pump/control unit was defective. Ended up costing me 95€, which wasn't as pricey as I thought it would be. The mechanic at the workshop was super helpful and he sorted it all out pretty quickly. Just a quick thought, have you noticed any potential wiring issues on your Tipo? It's really hard to tell for sure without the car in front of me. Anyway, hope this helps and your Tipo gets back to normal soon! Cheers!

Hey, thanks for responding so quickly! It's a relief to hear that it wasn't too expensive for you. To be honest, I haven't noticed any potential wiring issues but it definitely could be the cause. I think it's probably best I take a similar route and get it checked out at the local workshop. The engine light has been on for a while now, and the last service was at 102997 km. But since then I've just been trying to figure it out solo. Fingers crossed, it's a simple fix like yours. Let's see how it goes! Oh, and appreciate your quick advice. Cheers!

Hey there, No problem at all, happy to help where I can! It's always better to get things checked out by professionals when it's beyond our expertise. I was lucky it was just a wiring issue with me, but it could be something entirely different with your Tipo. Getting your coolant pump inspected is definitely a good start, but with the engine light on, I'd say it's best to get a complete engine check. After all, as we always say in the Fiat community, better safe than sorry! Let us know how it goes at the local workshop. Wishing you a quick and not too costly fix. Fingers crossed! Cheers!

Hey, absolutely, better safe than sorry, couldn't agree more! I guess my DIY car repair days are numbered. And you're right, I shouldn't narrow down on the coolant pump itself and overlook other potential issues, just praying for it to not be too expensive. Will definitely get a thorough engine check and keep you posted on what the mechanic finds. Fingers double crossed for a solution that's as simple as yours. Cheers for the advice and kind wishes, really appreciative. Cheers!
