Howdy! Your situation sounds all too familiar. It was the same story with my 2012 Lexus LFA. Couldn't figure out what it was until finally the diagnostic turned up a faulty control unit. Having gone through the whole ordeal, let me just say that it's a nuisance at worst, and getting it fixed ASAP is the best course of action - despite the sour taste left by earlier mechanic experiences. Here's an offbeat question, but do you recall how much the mechanic charged you for replacing the TCU? And has anything else popped up since you got the issue sorted? I'm trying to keep a lid on potential future surprises. Thanks a bunch! Cheers!

Hey there! Oh yeah, I remember dealing with the TCU replacement. Bit of a heavy hit to the wallet, if I'm being honest. Ended up costing me around 1000€ to sort out the whole Transmission Control Unit being defective and all. Now for some good news, since getting that fixed, the Lexus has been running like a dream. The parking position switch for the automatic transmission that was bothering me? Totally fixed! Didn't even require a separate repair job, the TCU replacement seemed to just fix that issue too. Honestly, despite the cost, it was totally worth it. No more unexpected gear changes, no more unsure driving moments, and most importantly, no more darn warning light! Feels good to have my ride back to its best. Hope this helps you to prepare for any surprises, I know how that feels! Safe driving! Cheers!

Hey guys, Your feedback has been really helpful. Hearing your experiences and how similar they are to my situation has certainly eased my worries a bit. I'm definitely going to get the ol' lady checked out soon at the mechanic's. While the cost isn't exactly music to my ears, knowing that the TCU replacement should fix the issue with the parking position switch too does soften the blow. I'm missing her smooth drives, and I don’t want to gamble with any potential engine problems down the line. Well, at least there’s light at the end of the tunnel (and hopefully no more warning lights on my speedometer, eh?). Will keep you updated on how it goes. Let's hope for the best, and thanks again for the help! Cheers, guys! Safe driving!

Hey! Sounds like a familiar issue, and bummer that it's got to disrupt your love for your Lexus. I also have a 2012 Lexus LFA and faced similar transmission problems a while back. The control unit was indeed defective, as you suspected. The issues you're facing—slipping gears, erratic shifts, and that pesky light—are telltale signs, just as I experienced with my LS. Yeah, it's a bit of a serious issue and not something you want hanging around. Ignoring it can potentially lead to long term engine problems. So, even if you're dreading the mechanics, it's really worth getting checked out. For me, the trouble was sorted out after they replaced the Transmission Control Unit (TCU). It's been running smoothly ever since. For now, make sure to take it easy on the road and gear shifting until you get it fixed. Hope this helps, good luck! Cheers.
