Seeking Advice on Issues with 2005 Mazda 5 Diesel's Electric Steering Column Adjustment

Electric steering column adjustment without function

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2005 Mazda 5 Diesel. The electric adjustment on my steering column has stopped working out of the blue. I've got a hunch that the steering column adjustment motor might be the culprit but I'm not totally sure. Has anyone faced something similar and how did you resolve it? How was your workshop experience getting this fixed? Cheers for any insights!

Hey! I'm rocking a 2007 Mazda 6, very similar to yours. Not a car guru, but I've got some experience tinkering with mine. Once had the same issue, it was a pain. My garage tracked it down to a faulty steering column motor cable connection. Cost me about €155 to sort it out, not too bad. Sounds like your beast might have the same trouble. But, hard to tell for sure without more info. Can you share anything else about your issue? It'll help me give more specific advice. Cheers!

Hey there! Appreciate the input. From what I can tell, flipping the switch doesn't engage the motor at all - no sound, no movement, nada. Did pretty much the basic diagnosis steps, checked it for obstruction but found nothing. Seems like our car issues might be related, huh? Latest service for my Mazda was at 180350 KM on the dot, nothing peculiar was reported then. I'll follow-up on your advice and check the cable connection. Might give my local mechanic a call to confirm! My Mazda has been pretty reliable so far, so this is quite the surprise! Thanks for the tips!

Hey! Ah, the silent motor gives quite an indication. If it was making noise but not moving, switches or gears could have been the problem. But, you know, complete silence suggests it might indeed be the motor or perhaps the electrical connection to it just like my old Mazda 6. I suggest you bring it up with your local mechanic. Sometimes, it's just a loose connection and could simply need a bit of a nudge or like in my case, replacement. You might have the same situation, but again, can't confirm without a good look. I know what you mean about the surprise though! My Mazda's been a rock star, too. Just remember, even the best cars have a grumpy day. Hope it all gets sorted out without too much of a fuss. Best of luck! Keep us updated, will ya? Cheers!

Hey there! I see where you're coming from and it makes a lot of sense. And yeah, no sound at all. I have contacted my mechanic and I'll get it checked out as soon as I can. Hoping it's just a simple connection problem rather than replacing the whole motor. You're spot on about the grumpy day! Just didn't expect it to happen so soon, you know? But hey, every car has its days. Thanks a bunch for the practical advice. Will keep you all posted on how it goes. Cheers!

Let our mechanics help you!
