Hiya! Your situation sounds eerily similar to my ordeal with my Hyundai ix35. Your description of the gear grinding and that odd whining sound, definitely brings back some memories, and not the good kind. Turns out it was the converter lockup clutch for me too. Took it to the garage and they pretty much confirmed it on the spot. The fix was a bit of a dent on the wallet, but far better than having a completely fried transmission. Speaking of which, you got me curious. Do you recall how much you ended up splashing out for the whole fix at the mechanic's? And have you had any other issues with the car since?
Hey, good to hear from you again! Ok, so let's talk brass tacks here. The whole fix at old faithful (the mechanic's, that is) cost me a pretty penny, we're talkin' about 2120.00€! Yeah, I too winced when I first heard it, but let's face it, better than a completely fried converter and a car that's about as useful as a chocolate teapot! Now for the Good News Dept. - since the mechanic got his hands dirty fixing that cranky Converter lockup clutch, my Hyundai has been running smoother than a jazz tune. No more weird noises, no more spontaneous gear shifting - it's like I got a new car but without the new car smell, ha! Got that pesky Automatic transmission converter completely sorted. So all things considered, that pretty large chunk of change was worth every cent. Hope this helps. Best of luck with your ride! Don't take too long in making your decision. Clock's a-tickin'!
Heys, I really appreciate you sharing your experiences. Seems like we're in the same boat here with the converter lockup clutch issue. I did take my Hyundai ix35 to a new garage this time, a place recommended by a. They took a look and it's exactly what you guys mentioned - the automatic transmission converter was the party spoiler. The mechanic quoted me a similar price, around 2050.00€. It's steep, I agree, but it seems the best way forward. I'm gonna get the problem tackled ASAP, really don't need it blowing up and ruining the whole transmission system. Thanks for the advice and wish me luck. I'll keep you guys posted on how it turns out. Cross your fingers for me! As they say, the clock's indeed ticking, and in this case, it's ticking towards a smoother ride I hope. Cheers!
Hey there. I reckon I've got a pretty good idea of what you're describing here with what went down with my 2016 Hyundai Tucson. Indeed, I was having the same problems, the transmission was all over, grinding noises, and everything. it was driving me nuts. Turned out, my automatic transmission converter was on the fritz. Was it a serious problem? Well, yes and no. The actual problem itself, with the converter being defective, is pretty serious in that you don't want to be ignoring it, but if you catch it early it can be managed. Actually, during my last visit to the garage, after my trusted mechanic looked over everything, he confirmed it was the fault with the torque converter. Apparently, the converter lockup clutch was the culprit. It required a rebuild, but thankfully didn't cause any additional damage to the engine. Bottom line, don't leave it too long as it might lead to bigger issues down the line. Have your mechanic check out the lockup clutch and the torque converter. I did and it sorted my problem pretty well. All good now. Best of luck with it!
